is expedited freight in a straight truck or van just as bad
Question:
Many of the posts here are about how bad a job driving a tractor trailer can be. There are many reasons given about why not to become a truck driver. Does this also apply to expedited freight working for a n expedited freight company as an owner operator or working for an owner operator contracted to an expedited freight company. How about expedited freight in a straight truck and or a van? Is it as bad as driving a tractor trailer? After reading the posts here, you 'd have to be nuts to want to driver a tractor trailer. I have been to expeditersonline.com. The negative remarks there about expedited freight truck driving are about 1/4 the negative rremarks about tractor trailer truck driving at this site.

Answer:
Yeah, that sux too.
Ideal driving job - UPS linehaul.Whoa is me. Yup, put the brakes on the trucking crapola and haven't looked back.

Answer:
They all suk today. Ideal no longer exists anywhere in Trucking.
Answer:
Charlie, It is still trucking. You face the same basic issues in expediting that you do in any other type of freight moving.
The only real "advantage" I can see for a driver doing the straight truck expediting is that driving a smaller truck can make it a lot easier to find a place to park when it is nap time.
Answer:

Or dinner time - you aren't limited to the crap that truckstops serve because that is where there is parking. You can actually eat at "normal people" places!
Answer:
No Charlie.. Expedited freight is not like regular OTR semi freight.
Lets see... no forced dispatch, paid detention, paid loading /unloading, less expense, better fuel milage, lower taxes, lower tolls, park it at your house, park it at resturants, stores, etc....
The big thing you will hear "Those in the Know" complain about expedited freight is the lack of miles... well. that's true! You don't run as many miles. However, the rate of pay is higher, you're treated better, you're loaded and unloaded FIRST at the dock.... this 6 and 8 hour wait to get loaded/unloaded? nope.. not gonna happen...
only similarity is.. still livin in a truck (or van!)

Answer:

Luther P.. I hope you find (or found) something that don't suck.. LOL...

Answer:

You do not have any idea of what you are talking about. too many people in trucking that are just like you.
Answer:

And you do? The fact is everyone has differing standards they live by. Too many people can't all be wrong can they?
Answer:

True.. however.. I would wager, a higher percentage of Expediters, than OTR drivers, are happy with their career.

Answer:

I know Rabelam and I think you know I know. But if one just has to have a truck, UPS would be my choice. It's a long process to make linehaul with them, other than that, that's my pick. Union LTL linehaul is right in there also. Most anything else is a total waste of your life.
More money, benefits are good but the job itself will always suk whether linehaul, local or OTR. Hell. if it paid 125k/ yr. I'd still say the job sukked. To do OTR for 35-50k is insane.
Looking straight ahead through a windshield for 80% of your life seems rather dull and not very enriching. A few other harsh descriptives come to mind, we all have heard them before and appear to fit.Whoa is me. Yup, put the brakes on the trucking crapola and haven't looked back.

Answer:

I will take that wager. I seriously doubt it. It's been my experience that
they inflate what they claim as income while neglecting to state the time it takes for that income. It suks like most of the other segments.
