Hometime
Question:
Hello all, im a newbie trying to find a place to start my training. I live in Atlanta, so would i get home time if the company i was going to work for didnt have a terminal in Atlanta. Which would be best. Answer: might be an option for you. They are a good company to work for, from what I hear, and they have a terminal down there somewhere in GA near Atlanta I think. I'm not sure how their training program is but I think it's fairly decent. Try www.millistransfer.com and see what they have to say. Good luck! Capt. Over Answer: With most OTR companies you can expect to be home roughly every 12-14 days or so (though there are exceptions like CRST and Stevens in which case you will be out 3-6 weeks at a time). Just so you know....just because a company has a terminal close to where you live does not mean you will see that terminal very often. I used to work for a company that had a terminal 50 miles from my house and there were times I wouldnt see the place for 2 months or more at a time....but I was still home every other week or so. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Yes, it is possible to get home, but it can be a hassle without a terminal nearby, unless you have plenty of places to park a truck while you are home that's safe. ___________________________ Humans are amazing creatures. Answer: Many companies let you take the truck/trailer home with you on your days off, if you have a safe/legal place to park it. Or they might have a "drop yard" near where you live where drivers can drop the trailer before taking just the tractor home, or where you could leave the whole thing and move to your car which you keep parked there while you're out. Call the compaies and find out. Answer: The best way to maximize your home time is to have a terminal close to where you live. This means two things. For one, it means the company has a high volume of loads moving through your area and the company will easily be able to route you home. Second, when you do get sent to the "home" terminal, you will not have to travel as far to get to your house, giving you more free time and less travel time. There is nothing worse than parking your truck after a few long weeks out just to get into your car with your stuff and drive several more hours to get home. Living in Atlanta you are lucky. Lots of compaies have terminals there. You can go on company websites and look under terminal locations. For those that list they have a terminal in Atlanta, look it up in the phone book and find out where it is. You may even be able to apply for a job there, do orientation, talk to drivers, and get a "feel" for the company. See how far from your home it is and if you can park your car there. Answer: Thank everyone for responding i will take all your thoughts and advice into consideration before i choose a company. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
