Am I about to make a mistake??
Question:
I'm trying to wrap up loose ends of a business that we closed and also get my wife squared away in a new place before going off to school. I've been OK'ed by Werner & still looking for other offers, but missed the start of the last class & fear having an employment gap if I take too long getting the CDL. There's a somewhat local school that will let me study & get my permit on my own then start the training with them on any Monday. They do mostly refresher & advanced training now and usually don't do beginner anymore but will take me since Werner has pre approved. Werner also approved the school & sometimes uses them. On the good side, one on one training - can drive back & forth from home so no housing fees - & $500 off if I get the learner's permit myself. I've started studying for the tests, don't think I'll have a problem passing except I must admit that HASMAT & air brakes on doubles & triples has my brain farting a bit. So, Please tell me, is this plan a mistake or does it sound workable?? Answer: Answer: There is only one way to find out... I would think that if you got your CDL through a recognized driving school that you would be able to get a job just about anywhere that will hire a newbee, provided you don't have a criminal record or too many tickets and live in their hiring area. Everyone stresses about the tests, Hazmat was the hardest for me, but there is nothing on those tests that isn't covered in the book. The nice thing is that you can study for them even when you're not at school. I scored 100% on tankers and doubles and didn't even read the chapters. I was unemployed for 6 months before I even started school. This was just one of many gaps in employment. That was a big reason I decided to get into this line of work. I was tired of becoming unemployed once a year. If you want it bad enough, You will find a way to make this work.you define the moment or the moment defines you. Answer: VJF, thanks for the link. Always helps to do practice tests to see where you stand. General knowledge I seem to be OK, think I'll do more study before I try the endorsement practice. I know I'm still not clear enough there. Answer: That was a nice site VJF. Glad you posted it I seem to be a little rusty. Answer: doubles/triples and air brake test are a breeze....but study for that hazmat! Answer: I heard THAT BigJ!!! Just finished going over the HAZMAT section again. The brain farts are getting smaller but ...... Thanks for the advice. I think I'm about ready, doing about 90-95% average on the on-line sample tests - EXCEPT for HAZMAT!!! I'll spend another day studying and perhaps try the test on Tuesday. VJF, thanks again for the link to the sample tests, they are a big help except for the questions about school buses Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
