To those not yet driving but want to
Question:
What is it about driving a truck that interest you?
I am just curious to see different peoples views on this. To those going to school I wish you the best of luck. This is USAF 2T2 and I approve this message.

Answer:
Keeping food on the table, nothing more. I enjoy driving the truck okay, although my heart is with my old job in the movie business. But that ain't gonna happen again, unless by some miracle the union comes back or I start growing younger.
Answer:
I followed my granddad and father into the construction industry and except for 4 years in the Marine Corps I stayed until I just got too burned out to enjoy it anymore.Driving had always had distant appeal to me so I got my CDL and there I went.

Answer:
Got into it 16 years ago after doing 6 years in the USN and coming home to a dead job market.
The home thing killed it after 3 1/2 yrs, too tough on the family end.
I just got back into driving because I am now single (2x) and the kids are grown. After being laid off in January, I decided 13 yrs in a factory was too hard on the body. 4 hand surgeries and a heart attack from stress and repetition is NOT a good sign.
Answer:
Pretty much for the $. I've been laid off since April; the prospects of finding anything other than entry-level in my field are pretty slim, believe me, I've been trying. If I could move from Tampa to Charlotte or Atlanta, might have a chance, but circumstances will not allow the family to move.
With the low cost of living here, the relative dollars to be made OTR are a pretty good option. Hope to put in the 1-3 years of OTR for experience and then find a decent paying local job.
Only other option is to take one of the (very) low paying entry jobs and then get another job (or two) on the side. In my opinion, a situation that wouldn't be any better for home life than OTR.
