1st week at the new job, WHAT A DIFFERNCE
Question:
Well first week is done and in the books. I drove a little over 2300 actual miles for the week. Sorry dont have the actual numbers, left the log book in the truck at the yard. 1st run: Left out of the yard early Monday morning at Anderson, IN. It was a "milk run" with 6 total stops. 1st pick up Ligoneere IN, 2nd Litchfield MI, 3rd Marshall MI, 4th Litchfield MI, 5th Coldwater MI, 6th Angola IN. Each stop I was only there for 15 minutes or less. Most of the places were working on me before I even brought the paper work in.!!! Out of Angola I headed back to Anderson. Dropped the trailor and headed home to watch Jeopoardy. 2nd run: Left out of Anderson headed to Hartwell GA. Had a 10am appointment. Was empty and shut down at a truck stop by 11am. I was due for my 10 hour break, so dispatch told me to call them when I woke up. Called in around 8pm, they told me that they had nothing for me yet and to call in the morning. So I called around 7:30 am, nothing yet. I get a call on the phone around 10am with my load info. I sat almost 23 hours at the truck stop. More on this later. 3rd run: Greenwood GA to Indianaplois in. I picked up on Weds and did not have to deliver until 2:30pm on Thursday. Got hook up with Hoss at Pioneer TN and we ran up to London KY. Got to the consignee at 2pm, but lucky me it was during shift change, so I did not get out of there until 4pm, Got back to the yard around 5:30, got home in time to watch Jeopardy. 4th run: Left out of Anderson early Friday morning. Had 2 stops, Saline MI and Canton MI. Both pick ups were quickly loaded, and I turned the truck back home towards Anderson. Got back to the yard around 3:30pm. I finished up my paper work for the week. They told me to call in on Sunday to see if they had anything that needed to be covered. I am being paid on a minimum $950/wk. I have to be "on call" Sunday-Friday, no worky on Saturday, thats my beer day to cover any loads that drivers have called in on. Basically, I am the last resort before they have to call an expiditor. So with only driving a little over 2300 miles or what ever, I still get paid the same. Sitting for an entire day down in GA, I still get paid the same. This is really strange for me. Also actually being home on the weekend is strange. Getting to the house twice during the week, strange. Being in a truck that can pull and do the speed limit down south, once again strange. Not being told which way to go, or when or where to fuel strange. I do have to fuel within our network but that is no big deal. As long as I stop at one of the places in the fuel book. They put me in a 2003 VNL 660. And let me tell you, it leaves the FL Centuries I have been in alot to be desired. This thing rides smooth as butter, has power to pull, and is more quiet with the windows rolled down then my Century was with the windows rolled up!! Answer: Glad to see that things are working out for you, Buzzdog. This job can be enjoyable when the "computer drivers" aren't micromanaging you to death. Answer: Quit SLACKIN' and get to work! Glad it's workin out for ya Buzz! Answer: Gosh!! Sounds like Buzz has already forgotten the "driven to protect, "and the "cornerstone values"hype. Also sounds like he is slackin!! Going home to watch Jeopardy???? Dammit Driver!!!! Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: Is that guy ever going to lose???? Over 1 million dollars and still going!!! About the hype, I have to say, that alot of what they say is good information. It is up to the drivers though to apply it every day. I will recommend Roehl to any driver that is just starting out. After they get that first year in though, it depends on their peronsal limit on what they can stomach. I really like the new job so far, now granted I am still in the honeymoon stage. But it is a refreshing change to say the least. I go in and pick up my paper work. They tell me where I have to go and what time I have to be there, everything else is left up to me. Carter is definately not a company for steering wheel holders or seat warmers. I actually get to use the grey matter between my ears here!!! Answer: It's a whole new world isn't it Buzz? I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you too. P.S. Sitting around is a lot more fun when you realize it's not costing you money isn't it?you define the moment or the moment defines you. Answer: Buzz: Glad to here that Carter is working out for you. I have nothing but good feedback from my students about them. Oh yeah! one other thing thats strange?? you don't have to work 70hrs, and kill yourself to make a living. LOL Good luck and enjoy your hometime, you've paid your dues and deserve it. Catch you on the flip! Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
