keeping frozen food in a truck
Question:
I have been tring to think of things that I want in the truck WHEN I get there. I wonder if any of you have used a cooler with dry ice to keep tv dinners, meats, frozen food frozen till you wanted it.
Saw a 12 volt freezer you could buy but it was like $700, and I figure you could buy a lot of dry ice for that. At publix, winn dixie's, wal marts or other simular stores.
Any one doing it or tried it???

Answer:
Go to Wally World. A good friend of mine has a small fridge and a inverter. He only had to buy a 300 watt inverter for the fridge. He says it works great. I thought about it since my cooler is to big to fit in the cubby hole on my Mack. The fridge fits perfectly in the slot.
The slot is probably 1 1/2 ft wide and 2 1/2 ft tall and probably 2 ft deep. I'm guestimating of course. I'm female I don't need a tape measure, lmaooo.
Anywho, it does work and it is like a reg. fridge except smaller. It is big enough to stopre frozen things in too.
Cost: 70-120 bucks and inverter is like ohh 40 bucks or so.

P.S. It will drain your battery. So if you leaver your truck over night somewhere, or at home for a limited amount of time unplug it.Sweet Whiskey

Answer:
When I first became an OTR drvr I had a 40qt, 12volt cooler, then as time went on I got a big 1500 watt inverter & a small(1.7 cu. ft), Dorm-Style Refrigerator.
I've had about 2 or 3 Dorm-Size fridges.(the first one was a 2.0 cu. ft & it was a little too big for the new trk I was assigned, so I bought the 1.7 cu. ft & it fit Perfectly.)
I know I bought one at Sears(Kenmore) for $99 & I bought another one at Wal-Mart on sale for $89.(I can't remember the brand name.)

Answer:
As far as inverter size goes you can get up to a 400 watt inverter that still uses the cigarette lighter plug.
If you use with a fridge or any other type of appliance that is "always" on be sure to use a battery protector that plugs in between the outlet and the inverter so that you wont totally drain the batteries when the truck is shut off.
Answer:
