Any McElroy flatbedders here?
Question:
I just put an application in with them. I need more consistant miles and to be home on the weekends. How many miles do you really average? How often do you not get home for the weekend? How long is the weekend and is it actually on the weekend?Wayne

Answer:
hi wayne i recently submitted an app to McElroy as well I am hoping o hear from them shortly. I don't know about the mileage they get but the advantage to me is they run about 10 loads a day into my home town from the same supplier to same destination. they bring paper in from tenn. and go back out from Palatka, fla with a load of wallboard. If you get on or hear anything please let me know.

Answer:
They've made me a job offer. I can go to orientation in either Cuba, AL or Pleasant Hill, NC on the 2nd. NC is slightly closer to home. They have a lot of freight moving through my area, so I will get home one or two nights a week, plus the guaranteed weekends home. I'm hoping to hear more about the company nd their daily routines from their drivers on here.Wayne

Answer:
Sheet rock = yuck
Nice big heavy tarps to put on and take off. Nice and heavy loads also. MMMMMMMM no thanks

Answer:

I used to haul at least one or two loads of drywall per week. Never any Sheetrock® though.

Answer:
I dont work for Macelroy but I do work for a flatbed co. Many of the drivers are happy with them. It all depends on works for you, personally. Yah, tarps are heavy and they are a pain in the butt, if you want to run a flatbed your going to mess with tarps no matter who you work for.
Ask the recruiter about the .15 cent fridays? I m not sure what it is but I have heard some of their drivers complaining about it.
Make a choice that best suits you. Good Luck

Answer:
au contrare............missuer LooP(my french is abominable...sorry).......ever hear of a company called KEEN????
I have never seen a tarp on their trucks
CDrecovering dweller..........oilfield trash division

Answer:
Yeah, seems some of these local and regional companies don't throw tarps at all no matter the load or the weather. Always wished I could get that lucky.

Answer:
Ya, chilidawg your right. Keen would be the same as Daiily. The heavy equipment movers dont throw tarps. I meant the normal flatbed companys such as: TMC, Grayson Mitchell, McElroy, Boyd, Swift, Wener, RSC, Coastal. The bottom line is tarps are a part of the flatbed business. Like it or not. If you dont like it then drag a van.

Answer:
I worked for McElroy for a week, until I realized that throwing a tarp around just wasn't my idea of fun - so I drag a van around.
It seemed like a pretty decent company, good, friendly people.
If you run into a driver named "Doodlebug", please tell him I said "Hello!"

Answer:
McElroy called while I was on the road last week, they want me to start ASAP. I told them Monday the3rd would be the soonest. That way I can run hard where I am and make $1000 or more a week, before I switch. The first few weeks there, will be pretty low pay and my wife is a teacher, don't start back to work until the end of the month.
So, flat bedding, here I comeWayne
