Question:
Ok so maybe I am full of bull but tell me what would be a good company to work for. I am 22 and have 3 years driving class b trucks and 2 months driving class a. Im not trying to be an *** but something smells fishy around here. Answer: news flash, they industry is not that great it's very hard to say company ABC or XYZ is good when the hours worked divided by pay received don't work out to a very high figuire more people have left the industry in the last 10 years, then have stayed, reason, they couldn't find a good company either the one you are looking at is way worse than average, you probably couldn't do much worse Have you tried looking to smaller companies? Most trucks on the road are not owned by the giant carriers. zigzag Answer: I'm with JSG as to the worth of the industry but if you just gotta drive OTR for a major carrier, it's probably a tie between Roehl, Millis, Crete & Shaffer. Even Schneider and Swift are about 62 notches above England. BOL. Answer: If I were to take advice from anyone around here, good or bad it would be Phil and Zig. They know from first hand experience obviously (as do many others). They won't lie about anything just to make it sound better. So in my opinion, if I were you, I'd take anything they say in to consideration. --> Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission. www.livejournal.com/users/trucking_life Answer: Yah, if Phil would ever give advice---he's a basher, he relpys to replys not posts. _________________ _______________________________________ It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves. Bette Midler Answer: Yah, if Phil would ever give advice---he's a basher, he relpys to replys not posts. Ahhh, whatsa matter White Dog? Did that mean old Phil hurt your feelings? Answer: alright you all have your point. I know I am young but my thing is most of the companies that were mentioned in other messages here have denied me employment because of work history but thats because i am young and had many jobs. I figure that I stick it out for a year at least and then I have the experience to go somewhere else if I want to or me an O/O. I can't stand all day because of my feet and ankles and all I want to do is drive. Don't get me wrong a little bit of manual labor don't bother me I just can't do it 9-5 I've done just about every job out there and the only ones I liked is driving. So I figure 1 year with this company since they have excepted me and if I don't like it I have me ticket to go somewhere else. I hope some of your understand my possition. Answer: Best of luck to you. Just do yourself a favor and don't lease a truck from England. Answer: Well, if you really like driving, then CR England will fulfill your desires because they will run you like a sled dog. But the catch is that they don't pay very much .cpm, so you might need to do 3,000+ miles a week just to match a guy from another company doing 2300 or so. You will rarely see home and you'lll be dealing with grocery warehouses where there's alot of hand unloads in a freezing cold reefer (despite England's claim of 'no touch' freight). Then you have to deal with trailer washouts and loading\unloading stacks upon endless stacks of pallets. To this day, I cringe when I see a stack of pallets laying around. The orientation is a complete circus. They will pre-screen you for employment, but if they don't like the way you look when you get down to SLC, they will send you away without batting an eyelid and give you no money for travel back home. Then there's this guy who's an ex-CIA agent or something who will dig through your past and (supposedly) find out everything bad you did since you were in diapers. The rooms have bunks which hold 6-8 people, but of course England will stuff 10+ people in there so it's like living aboard that ship from 'The Caine Mutiny'. The CDL test is funny because they pretty much give you the answers to the test, but it's the road testing that can kill you because if they don't like the way you back up or if you stall the truck or something they will tell you to pack up your $hit and leave immediately. And yes, no travelin' money back home either! The equipment is new, but alot of the trucks are trashed because low-lifes beat the hell out of them, but then again you get what you pay for so I guess that should be expected. They are pretty anal about having repairs done in SLC where they can control the costs, so if your AC goes out in, say, Maine, and it's 100+ degrees out well then, my friend, you will get a preview of what hell is like on earth as you drive ALL THE WAY back to SLC. They are big on pushing the lease program and if you're foolish enough to sign up for that then God help you! So do you still want to drive for England? I can give you MANY more horror stories about that place if you'd like. There's a nice lady named ME around here who's husband drove for England so maybe she can help you out as well. http://www.subway.com Answer: No Paladin; I'm pretty sure Phil has never addressed me or anything I have ever said on here. Maybe don't even know who I am. Simply stating a fact of what I've seen on here from his replys. You very seldom see Phil giving advise, unless he's advising someone to shut up or kiss his can. He's got a sharp tounge and seems to be very intelegent; just needs to work on putting it to good use. _________________ _______________________________________ It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves. Bette Midler Answer: He is Phil. --> Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission. www.livejournal.com/users/trucking_life Answer: There's something I noticed lately in this country. People are considered virtuous when they bash things, even though they never do anything to fix the problems or even participate in that industry or organization! I noticed that there are more and more people that consider themselves great, because they bash truck drivers and the trucking industry as a whole. Yet, they never participate in anything that may change things for the better! They pat themselves on the back because they are now the truck bashing pros! Thing is, how will anything get better by doing what they do? Anybody can sit on the sidelines and throw out words at those that are in the trucking industry. But, it’s the real people that do things! There would be no Teamsters union if it was let up to the bashers. OOIDA would be an idea if it were up to the bashers! Because of bashers the ATA gets stronger! Because of bashers, the news media keeps misrepresenting the trucking industry! Because of bashers, truck schools keep turning out drivers that have no business being in this industry! Yeah, the ‘hate trucking first’ crowd will back the bashers. But, have the bashers ever done anything but sit on the sidelines and bash???? SO WHAT if they tell us what’s wrong with trucking! We knew what was wrong long before they pulled up their chairs to the sidelines! Just like those bashers that sit on the sidelines and up in the stands at football games. They ALWAYS know what the players and coaches are doing wrong. But, they’re not in any position to fix it. Because they lack the fortitude to do anything! ************************************ Indiana RoadRunner A legend in his own mind! A legend in his own mind! zigzag Answer: and what have people done that hide the truth and go as far as misrepresenting the truth done for the industry? I know, supplied scum companies with an endless stream of people to exploit, thus dragging down the whole system even lower. To bad this young fellow didn't know the truth 5 years ago when he was still 18,he would have made other plans most likely, now he's 23 and sort of stuck for a way to earn a living and the reason is blowhards that lie about the industry. the very same people that will brag to some stranger about how well they do driving a truck, will tell their own children a whole different story if they say"daddy i want to drive a truck like you, when I grow up" http://www.truckinginfo.com/news/news_detail.asp?news_id=48216 "It was Lifschultz's view that the sole purpose of deregulation was to crush the union wage" zigzag Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
