What's Wrong With This Picture?
Question:
Last week I watched a driver drop a trailer using the following proceedure (in chronological order):
1) Pull 5th wheel release.
2) Lower landing gear.
3) Tug on red glad hand, scratch his head, then...
4) Climb into cab and pull red button.
5) Climb out of the cab, disconnect both gladhands and the pigtail.
6) Climb back into the cab and pull the tractor out from under the trailer.
Any bets on how long his career (and his appendages) lasts?

Answer:
Hope he doesnt drop a trailer on an incline doing it like that.
Answer:
I‘ve pulled the red glad hand, and all it did was hiss at me. But I put the landing gear down first…

Answer:
Often I'd forget to set the trailer brakes before disconnecting the red line. Always lowered the landing gear first, then the lines, then the fifth wheel release.

Answer:
if the red line blows air, just pull it off and remove pigtail and blue one,get in pull button, why get in and get back out
one truck I use the trailer button don't pop out when I set the tractor brakes. I'm always getting a blast of air,who cares as long as you set the tractor brakes as soon as you pull the red line the trailer brakes will set
If you where on that steep a hill that the trailer would come sliding off,you won't get the 5th wheel unlocked in the first place, the trailer would be pulling against the jaws
connecting to a trailer, always set the tractor brakes after you hit the kingpin, the trailer brakes may have been backed all the way off and the only thing holding you in place will be the landing gear if they are still touching the ground, you start cranking them up and the whole unit will roll away.
Answer:
ziggie.....guess you missed that this driver yanked the 5th wheel release before doing anything else.
