Answer:
I don't think you need any advice Bean Town; you did the right thing....now try another company, and if things don't "feel" right again, move on like you did this time.
I'm proud of you! It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.

Answer:
Guess we'll have to just keep researching for a carrier for you.

Answer:
no doubt you did the best thing, certainly that enviroment won't get you off to a good start.
keep searching and certainly you have lots of friends here who will help you out.
am sad to hear you had such a rough time

Answer:
Good eye!
Unfortuantely, you're probably going to have to bite the bullet and settle for a crappy dweller company at first. They're really the only ones that will give you a chance right out of the chute. They'll use you and abuse you for a year then you can get a decent job if you look hard enough. I think it is worth it though... Opinions differ on that though.

Answer:
funny shuffler never mentioned things like that,it was all just great over at big blue for him
attention dreamers,it can't be like this posters says, nobody would put up with it,he must have failed his wiz test or something
move on and find a post that says what you want to hear, you don't want to hear stuff like this
here click on this
http://www.werner.com/driver/index.cfm?page=millionMileClub.cfm
look at all the million miles drivers and think about all the ones who didn't get the award because they had a little minor fender bender, like bumped a parked car while trying to get that big huge truck into some stupid dock someplace or some other minor mishap
werner has thousands of drivers that stick around for years,it has to be a good company or they wouldn't stay, now, now there, there all better
Bad poster, telling bad stories like that, you are frightening the dreamers
Answer:
took wiz test and physical passed evrything and these are the things that need to be on here what's wrong "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH" AND BY THE WAY I DID NOT HERE THAT YOU WORKED FOR THE BIG BLUE (WERNER) AND I WONDER WHY SO ZIGGY BEFORE YOU TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO PUT HERE GO ON DOWN TO DALLAS WORK FOR WERNER AND WE WILL TALK LATER OR ARE YOU NOT A DRIVER AND WORK FOR THE LOT LIZZARD NATION TELL THE TRUTH ZIGGY
Answer:
Um bean town you might wanna reread Zigs post he's just interjecting a little humor in it. He doesn't blame you for leaving Werner and yes I beleive Zigzag started his driving career with Werner. I didn't see where he bashed you at all for looking for a different carrier. He actually agrees with posting the real scene at the Dallas terminal.

Answer:
OK ZIGGY SENT AN E-MAIL OF MILLION MILE CLUB AND WHAT I AM SURE THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU GET A TRUCK YES IT TOOK TWO HOURS BUT I GAVE IT A 1\2 DAY TALKED TO FLEET MANAGER AND THEY SET UP FOR ME TO GO TO NEBRASKA. HE THINKS I HAD PROBLEM WITH LOCATION IT WAS EVERYTHING NOTHING THEY SAID IS TRUE AT WERNER.
Answer:
he's right i drove for werner and if I had told you to run the other way,you wouldn't have listened,so what makes you think anyone will listen to you??
bad reports.com the big blue screw, werner sucks, wernerscrewes,it's all over the internet
plus it's probably posted around trucknet, more negitive than possitive, nobody listens
another post on the main forum about CR England, not one reply was positive, yet the guy will still go ahead with it,he can't believe they would have drivers if it's as bad as people say.
we had one experianced poster go to prime, she had to go see for herself and had driving experiance on top of it.Not one good word was ever posted here about prime, yet she still went to the slaughter and at least came back and took her beating.
AND STOP WITH THE BIG LETTERS,YOU DRUNK OR SOMETHING don't blame you have another one and get back to it monday, you can do better than the big blue screw
Answer:
Average monthly miles per
tractor 10,288
Average loaded miles per trip 627
Average total miles per trip 703
Average annual trips per tractor 173
Number of Power Units 8,923 Number of Drivers 10,634
1711 trucks have 2 drivers in them,so they get more miles than 10,288 and you will get less miles than 10,288 a month as a single driver.
you would most likely see around 2000 miles a week and how much per mile??,26cpm or something like that
$500.00 a week minus taxes and expenses on the road and student loan repayment if that applies to you.
I hope you don't have people at home to feed and support, tell them to start job hunting if they plan on eating everyday while you go off on your great adventure
Answer:
Hey Chris, you may be better off looking for a local run.
Roger did the OTR thing for about 6 months with Falcon Transport, and we were going broke faster than we could blink.
After he left them, he go into a local place, it's a warehouse that supplies restaurants. He is home every night and weekend. He runs as far as about 3 hours from home each day, making the deliveries. The only bad part is he does all the unloading. But, he only works 4 days a week, and gets paid hourly. He makes decent money, and we are doing pretty well. Of course, beween us we have 5 kids, so that makes a little more expence for us. But, he doesn't mind this company at all, and he's been there for a year and a half.
I don't blame you one bit for leaving Werner for that kind of stuff. Roger had considered them, but decided against it because something just didn't feel right about it. He never even went to try it. We found out he'd only get one day home for each week he was out, and that could take 6 weeks for him to get home to begin with, then they could call him back out after a day or two.
The kids need to have a dad more often than that, and I like him home more than that.
Good luck in finding a company. I know it can be tough.
Answer:
Well, you can look for a local delivery job, but other possibilities for OTR exist besides large companies such as Warner, et al.. I really think the best thing, if you've got a little experience, is to look for one of those nice clean little family run outfits. One where they'll just have from 3 or 4 to, maybe, a couple of dozen trucks. The equipment may not be the newest and fanciest, might not be loaded with all the bells & whistles, but it often tends to be clean and well maintained. You'll get more respect and oftentimes as good a paycheck as you would running for one of the big outfits. Sound them out and see if you can get some kind of idea whether they're going to pressure you to run illegal. If so, scratch them off the list. If not, they just might be your best option. The pay may not be $0.42/mi, but if they've been around a while, it'll probably be decent, at least. We seem to have a lot of these in Iowa, but I think you'll find them everywhere.
I got out of it a few years ago, but now I'm getting back in it. After talking to a couple of the big outfits, that's exactly what I'm doing; going with a smaller family run operation.
Answer:
One thing with those small outfits. Be dang sure to check them out, in person, before hiring on. They can be nice to work for, but you could also end up in trucking hell.
Answer:

Uturn's correct on that, too.
Thinking about it, I'd add that checking them out should include trying to find out as much as you can about what kind of customers they have. It's a good sign when they have (a) contract(s) to haul for particular companies and have been doing it for a while.
Depending on the companies, of course.
But, typically, you'll find yourself loading at the same places and unloading at the same places. Can almost be like running dedicated, while there can be variances in where you actually load and unload in a particular customer's organization. It's good when these companies get their backhauls from a limited list of shippers they have experience and history with. But, if they're getting a lot of loads off of load boards or you find they're dealing with different freight brokers all the time, that's probably not a good sign.
There can be a lot of difference if their customers/destinations are manufacturers or processors as opposed to distribution centers. You find yourself going into a lot of distribution centers or grocery warehouses, you'll probably be handling a lot of freight or paying out bucks to lumpers. It's always better to get a lumper, and some warehouses it can just be tough to get unloaded (without problems) if you don't work with their local guys. With the new Hours of Service rules, I kind of think it's important to avoid having to log any more On Duty/Not Driving time than can absolutely be helped. A good OTR carrier will have the attitude that your job is to drive the truck, not load it and unload it, and will usually be willing to reimburse you for lumpers. With LTL/local/delivery type operations, you'll be expected to handle the freight, but you're generally going to be paid by the hour and the HOS issues won't be quite the same.
That's been my experience, anyway. Actual results and side effects may vary. Do not use without physician approval.
