Roads to Avoid?
Question:
I am wondering if I can pick all your brains a bit.. I would like to know what roads around the U.S. should be avoided.. Yes, I own a Motor Carriers Road Atlas and know how to use it.. It is very informative and helpful in trip planning however we all know there are "evil" roads to stay away from...

Answer:

Evil Roads are determined by the skill and truthfulness(snicker)of
the Driver. Driver Egos are built by their tales of "evil"roads.
The fact is all roads are "evil"for Newbies, only due to the lack of experience on those roads.
Answer:
I always found it helpful to avoid the entire state of Louisiana.
Answer:
For newbies, ALL roads are evil.
However as you gain with skill and confidence you will be looking for those evil roads for a new challenge.
Eventually you will find yourself saying... I will go anywhere safely.

Answer:
Avoid Michigan Too many damm potholes all over the state.

Answer:
Avoid I-70, WEST of Denver.
If I'm not mistaken, U.S. Highway 93.(Hoover Dam area)

Answer:
Not neccessarily avoid this stretch of Interstate, just be careful crossing...I-15=from Kanarraville/New Harmany,UT., to St.George,UT.
Same goes for I-80/Donner's Pass, in California & I-84/Cabbage Hill, in Oregon & I-5/Grapevine, in California.(no need to avoid them, just need to be EXTRA Careful.)

Answer:
I remember Hwy. 62 in the Northwest corner of Arkansas was a BIG MISTAKE.
And what was that---Hwy. 95 in Idaho. Coer d' Alene through Lewiston on down to I-84. (there are only so may roads here---tough to avoid)
You'll end up on roads you wished never exsisted. It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.

Answer:

was weel worth it.

Answer:
I do believe that US 93 over the dam is still off-limits to all trucks. Yeah, that was one h3ll of a hill!
BTW, I thought that the pothole was the official symbol of the state of Michigan. Either that, or maybe one of those 8-axle steel trailers is.....
Answer:
A lot of roads in NW Arkansas should be avoided. Roehl sent me over a real beaut of a road with a load of bricks. Straight up and straight down through the mountains. Lost about 2-3 hrs, when I could have ran I40 to I571? north to I44 in MO. First and last time I ran that road. Some little roads in PA can be a challenge also. Never let us forget--the good old Iowa "dirt roads. Ran them a lot hauling liquid feed. Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off!
The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party.
IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:
I-80 from Calf to NJ
I-70 from Utah to Maryland
I-40 from Calf to NC
I-20 from TX to SC
I-95 from FL to ME
I-75 from FL to MI
I-65 from AL to IN
I-55 from MS to IL
I-35 from TX to MN
I-5 From CA to WA.
And everywhere in between!!

Answer:

Here in Iowa we have a gravel road every mile. (dirt roads are "Level B Maintenance" roads and are about two per county---99 counties).
I love them. Grew up on them. Got drunk on them (somewhat legally---the cops would tell us to go out on the gravels if we want to "raise heII"). Got laid on them. Heck, I live on one now.
All that said---you're right Razz; I would'nt want to have to deliver on them all the time. It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.

Answer:

this was the first run i ever did as a trainee.
we took a load from phoenix to denver and we were going to go a different route which was 100 miles longer because my trainer said i better not take you up the 70 your first time out unless you think you can do it.
i asked him if he thought i could do it because i had driven for two hours from albuquerque to phoenix. he said he thought i could so i, thinking ok if you think i can, let's do it because we didn't have a lot of time.
whew. i know i'm going to get bashed for telling everyone this out here but i stalled twice on an upgrade. let me tell you what a rush that was. eek.
going up these serious upgrades with a full load a couple times i was trying to get it in gear and lost road speed, tried to get it in sixth but rpm's were dropping and blah, killed it.
then trying to get a truck started uphill with a full load from first gear, killed it again trying to upshift. it was quite the embarrassment to say the least. i actually started going backwards a couple times and i was screaming at my trainer you have got to take over this truck!!! we are going backwards!!! he just said no your gonna do it. start the truck up again in first, let your rpms go up to like 1800 and then shift. finally i got it going again but i had no idea i was in for that.
i will say that it is a very beautiful run. rocky mountains on each side of you with the colorado river running on your left. we went all the way to the summit of vail. there was snow on the ground in may and it was just breathtaking. it was definitely the funnest run i did and i'm glad i did it. i got the experience but i'm not sure it was in the best judgment for my trainer.
