Question:
i was at a half baked BP truck stop just south of green bay wi on sunday night. I'm in my truck putting some fresh ice in the cooler when i see the door to the convinence store fly open and a driver comes hauling tail out with habeb right on his tail. they both run behinde the trucks and then the flatbed driver next to me hops out then they both chase this driver. now I'm interested and get out well the flatbed is on one side of the marsh looking for this driver and i'm looking on the side behind the trucks. the flatbed sees him and walks down well i walk over and help bring him out of the marsh. the guy stinks of beer. well we get him up to the store and the cops show up slam him around alittle and leave. small town no action because the cops come back 5min later and ask for the video tapes and our statments.
We tell them what we saw and then another driver steps in and tells them to look in the dumpster for the trash he throw out on the way into the store. They look throw it and find a roehl fuel ticket. only one roehl truck in the lot. they look inside but can't enter it w/o permission (couldn't place him in truck) So another roel driver pulls in for the night just as he's set up to back in the cops flood his truck for a phone number for the company. They called and got permission to search the truck they found a half drank warm case of natural ice and some other goodies
I hope this guy looses his lic. forever he hadn't been at the truck stop long because there was no roehl trucks there when i got there about half hour before all this. Drinking and driving is bad enought but with 80,000lbs is murder for a couple famlies of 5! How stupied can one be to drink when diving a big truck, i mean come on any idoit can figure out no good will come of it.
Well that was my adventure for the week hope never to have to repeat it. Please use your head don't drink in that truck and if your hard up and need food just ask on the cb any driver there that night myself inclueded would have bought that man dinner if had just asked.

Actually since Roehl was most likely notified by the Police, that driver will no longer be employed. They Do not tolerate alcholic beverages of any type in their vehicles or on their properties.
I'm also certain they will report the reason for his/her dismissal to DAC.

Roehl is not going to hire this driver back. They'll make him take a alcohol test right away. The risk are so high in law suits today, even the billy big rigger 1000 mile a day O/O's that hire drivers won't touch him.

There is never, ever any excuse for drinking and driving. Same with using drugs. No excuse and in my book there should never be any tolerance. You drink or drug and get caught, you walk, for life. As far as ROEHL policy, it states in the driver's reference guide that no booze of is allowed on or in their property, period.I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!!

That doesn't quite hold water there, Mr Company Mouthpiece. I don't drink, and I've never used drugs in my life. I happen to know for a fact that Roehl has hired people back that have done worse in the drug or alcohol abuse department. All he has to do is go to one of the many fly by night rehab units out there and the Roehls, being typical liberals, will shed big crocodile tears, praise him for his determination, and throw him some keys.

I'm just a little confused here. Why were they chasing him around the t/s? Did he shoplift something? And why is everybody getting so all-fired righteous and calling Roehl and "narcing" the guy? I can't believe what I'm reading. Roehl policy is NO alcohol on company property (including trucks) and some of you are hacking on Roehl? I stopped at a truck stop south of Milwaukee and a driver asked if they sold beer. In the Roehl case, the driver chose to violate company policy. He will not be re-hired by Roehl or just about any other carrier. Who's fault is it? Roehl's or the driver.

IMHO booze has no place on a truck other than in the trailer, and then only for transport from the shipper to the reciever. If you want to drink then get a motel room or better yet wait until you get home, get in your car go to the store, buy it, go home put the keys up and drink all you want.
I have no use for people who drive drunk. I lost someone very dear to me because of this. Personally I wish states would truly get tough on these idiots who use drug and/or drink and drive. 10 year suspension of all driving privledges plus 5 years in jail for the 1st offense and lifetime suspension and 10 years in jail for the second would not hurt my feelings one bit.
