It looked like a GREAT place to park!
Question:
Left the Houston area heading for the Carolina's. Had to make a fuel stop in Gulfport, MS. So I had decided that was where I would take my 10! Arrived right at midnight, tired but no worse for the wear. Pulled around the fuel islands, past the scale towards the back row, knew there wouldn't be anything closer that time of night. Spotted an easy one right on the end, all I had to do was pull up, and make a slight blind side back and shut 'er down! Did my paperwork, planned tomorrows trip, walked inside looked around did my buisness, back to the truck for some sleep, sweet sleep! Woke the next morning grabbed my shower stuff headed in for breakfast, would soon be on my way! Came back out looked over and their was a flatbed setting on top of the drivers side fender of the cab, he had stopped just short of running the tandems over the corner, however the rest of trailer had not cleared it as well! Fender, fiberglass, parts of the grill and headlight all over the parking lot! Guess the driver was in too much of a hurry to keep an eye on where is trailer was going. So I just shook my head in amazement! Was I mad? Why should I be mad! You see as I stated in the topic, "It looked like a GREAT place to park" You see,I had decided to drive on through and see what other options I had, and there were plenty! I did have to get out and use G.O.A.L. but I got her in its place, and was able to leave right on time! I never park on the ends, not yet anyways! Kind of ironic, the damaged tractor was red, just like mine! Whew!! Driving is all about decisions in the present and the outcome of the future! I'll save the one about the Petro in Beaumont for later! Drive on! bandit58.... Answer: Being hit while parked can happen any place, at any time regardless of where you are parked. A few things you can do to help minimize being hit are: 1: Park in a parking space. 2: Make sure you are straight and in the center of the parking space. While doing this offers no garuntees it does add another 2 points in your favor. Answer: I always tried to find a spot to "DRIVE" into. Lot quieter and leaves a little more room to back in when you don't have them damned spot mirrors sticking out. Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: A CRST truck rubbed up all over the front of my truck yesterday. Luckily I somehow sensed the impending doom and woke up just before the impact. I dove out of bed and laid on the air horn just as his trailer touched my front corner. He stopped immediately and I only ended up with a slight paiunt scuff out of the deal. I usually avoid truck stops at all costs, but I was sort of tired and didn't feel like hunting for a quiet spot. Answer: Happened in the parking lot at the Flying J off I-40 exit 76 (TX) the other afternoon. One of the parking lot hot rodders came around the corner at a high rate of speed. What he hit was a brand new international, ripping the entire hood off. This happened just before I pulled in and I saw the aftermath. Not a pretty sight. Apparently the operator of the international had just opened the hood to check the engine and barely missed being hit. When I pulled in, they were still "discussing" the incident.I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Lead, Follow or get out of my way!!!
