waiting for a trainer.
Question:
i,am have been told that some trucking companies send you home after orientation to wait for a trainer i have heard that it some times can take 2-3 weeks before you hit the road is this true.

Answer:
Yep

Answer:
Yep that is true.
It is simply a case of supply and demand, and it can happen at any of the training companies.
When you attend orientation you are likely to be given a card or form about your preferences for a trainer. The card will ask questions such as your prefered gender and do you want to train with a smoker.
The more particular you are then the greater a chance you will have of waiting.
Answer:
Yep, it is TRUE.
Usually the ones that are waiting are the ones that are PICKY about their trainer.
If you are wanting a devout NONsmoker, then you'll have to WAIT.(Not many NONsmokers in the trking industry.)
If you are a Female & Only Want a Female trainer, then You'll WAIT.(most carriers do Not have many FEMALE trainers, simply b/c they Don't have many Female drvrs to begin with.)
Although most carriers do their best TRYING to get a trainer that lives in Your Area so that you can go HOME when the other one takes time off...sometimes the carrier might ask if you would mind going with a trainer that lives in a different area.(If You Insist on a trainer that lives in Your area, then you WILL have to WAIT.)
Then, sometimes, they just simply do Not have any trainers available b/c they either still have students with them & have not made it to the terminal to drop off that student & p/u another or the trainer is taking time off.
It's not uncommon for a carrier to put you on a bus or in a trk with another drvr to get you a ride to meet up with your trainer.
Just remember.....You do NOT get paid while you Wait for a trainer.
Some students may have already had a trainer, but b/c they did NOT get along with the trainer(for what ever reason), they are sent home to wait for a different trainer or they are sent to a terminal to wait for a different trainer.
Sooo, if you do NOT get along with your trainer You Do Have a Right to Request a Different Trainer....Just Remember that you MIGHT have to WAIT for a Different trainer if none is available.(and you might be put at the BOTTOM of the Waiting list)

Answer:
This makes me want ask another question
You are sent off with a trainer away from your area..Would the company pay for your lodging when the trainer and you are off? I'm doubting it but seems reasonable
I Can

Answer:
ICAN, that depends on a lot of factors. The first of which of course is company policy, the second of which is the trainer him/herself and where they live.
Some trainers will take the trainees home with them as they may have an extra room if the trainee lives too far away to go to their home.
Companies also often, but not always, will pay for the trainee to stay in a motel room if needed.
Sometimes the trainee ends up having to pay for a motel himself of stay in the truck while the trainer takes time off.
Another thing that happens at some companies is that the trainee will be dropped at a terminal and assigned a new trainer when the "original" goes home for time off.
Answer:
ICan, It depends on the carrier.
Some carriers Do & Some carriers do NOT.
If the carrier does Not pay for your lodging while your trainer is at home you will have to either stay in the truck or pay for a motel yourself.
When I was in training with CRST, my first trainer lived in Albuquerque,NM.(I live in Oklahoma)
I have relatives in Albuquerque, so I called my relatives & they picked me up at the trkstp while he went home.
There were a few times that he went home, I just stayed in the trk b/c he was only going to be gone a few hrs & not worth calling my relatives to pick me up for.
My second trainer lived in Lawton,Oklahoma.....he left the trk at the OKC terminal & I went home.(in Edmond,Ok.)
