Unions
Question:
Does anybody know how unions work? If I have a union job and move to a different part of the country, will the union help me find a job there? Thanks Answer: Unions don't do the hiring, companies do. Unions do run job openings at companies where they represent employees, or can put you in touch with the locals where you plan to move usually, from a website for the union. Union are not employers. Unless you would like to be a business agent, an organizer, things along that line. Answer: I wish I could help you with that question, but I don't know much about unions. Try asking your question on the Union Forum Answer: Very, very slowly. Sorry. I just could not resist. Been a bad week having to wait on parts at the union factory. Answer: Plus being paid an hourly wage in a "skilled" profession. I couldn't resist either. Answer: It has got to be. I can not even imagine the extensive training those union folks go through to learn skills like counting seconds during a break, milking hours, how to stand around and talk for 41 minutes out of every hour etc. Answer: I would say that you will probably have to go on the new tremianls senority list. And where you are placed will depend on what the local unions agreement with that termial location states. If you are going to be working under the National Master Freight Agreement which covers Roadway/Yellow, ABF. USF Holland then there is a section in the contract that covers change of operations, and how transfers work in new termial locations. I would advise you though before transfering to a new termianl, that you talk with some of the drivers that work out of that location. They know the local work rules and transfers , along with how the senority system works there. If you have anyother questions feel free to contact me! Catch you on the flip!
