Switching Class A license from one state to another
Question:
I just put in a post about Swift and was also looking at another company Millis. I live in Florida so they do not hire there. If I move to Georgia then I could get on with them. Is it easy to just transfer one license to Georgia license or do I have to get a whole new CDL A license (with endorsements)? Answer: It's my understanding, in most cases, all that is required is give 'em the money, pass a vision test and retake the HazMat test and you're good to go. . . Except Cali, I think you have to have a current passing physical in Cali before transferring your CDL. If I'm wrong, I'm sure a fellow poster will enlighten me. BOL Answer: I don't know about other states, but before you can transfer a license to a New Mexico license, you have to have PROOF that you reside there.(in New Mexico) You also have to take a vision test. If you have haz-mat, you must retake haz-mat test. You can either get a P.O. box in New Mexico & have mail sent to it or if you have friends or relatives that live in New Mexico, you can use Their address. Again, this is what it takes to transfer your current license to a New Mexico license. I'm NOT sure what other states do. Answer: I know that when you transfer a CDL A from another state to Oregon, the rule is that you have to take the HazMat written test, and they also may or may not have you take a driving test. If they have you take a driving test, you have to arrange for a vehicle to take the test. I guess every state is slightly different. Best bet is to contact Georgia DMV. Answer: The majority of states require: Proof of residency Payment of all liscensing fees Vision test Haz-mat written test. (for CDL holders who wish to obtain/retain this endorsement) Contact the DMV of the state you are wishing to move to for specific answers. Answer: If you transfer your CDL to Missouri you have to retake "ALL" the written tests, endorsements included. It's a money thing, they all want your money, some more than others.Henry Ford Answer: When you transfer your cdl make sure they put in the compter that you only have one cdl. When I transferd my New Mexico to Michigan. The Michigan people never canceld my new mexico cdl even though they cut it up. Crazycracker Answer: I know since 9-11 alot of states have changed their policies, I got mine changed from NC to TN before 9-11 and a friend of mine just recently moved here and had only a post office box..(his house did not have a mail box..So his electric & phone bill and everything was going to hi s P.O. Box..He ended up having to get a notarized copy of his lease showing his street address. You would think that if you are paying the local utilities and they are in your name that you live there Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
