Swift Drivers- What is percentage is no-touch freight
Question:
Hello,
I am interested in how much no-touch freight Swift has? I called a recruiter and said he doesn't really have any numbers to give. And also looking at the website it has payscale divided into 2 (West and East side). Do the East side drivers go out west and vise versa. Thanks!!!

Answer:
HaloMaster,
It is a hard question to answer. Swift does prefer to use lumpers. Sometimes I found that I was doing a lot of driver unloads, left that part of the country and came back and everything was lumpers. I did get to one place that the freight was lumped and the next trip I dragged it off the trailer. It is going to depend on where you are running and what the freight in that area requires. In all honestly, there is not factual answer. And if anybody offers you a factual answer, get it in writing… heck, even a signature on paper isn’t worth much anymore.
As far as east west pay goes. I am from the west coast so anytime I went east of the Mississippi River I got the extra pay. However, there is a big BUT there! And that is the freight has to originate and deliver east of the River. If you cross the River you don’t get the extra pay. The reason behind the extra pay is that most the runs back east are shorter then those on the west. In theory, at least.
I am not sure how the pay works if you are out of the Eastern region and cross the River.
Swift runs all 48 and Canada. I ran just about everywhere, but I didn’t get much home time, which was fine with me. If you need to get home every couple of weeks, then you will most likely stay in your region. If you think about it, if you’re out of Ocala and they send you to Phoenix, they have to turn around and get you right back home. It doesn’t make good use of your truck and it is hard for the planner to get you right back home.
Give a holler if you have anymore questions.

Answer:
As of a few years ago Swift claimed to be 95% no touch for the OTR fleets. All in all this was probably accurate though many of the loads a driver did have to lump were nasty ones. (ie Kmart retail store loads, tire loads etc. )
Answer:
I worked for Swift for a year.Six months as a system driver/Six months dedicated Wal-Mart tire account.
Running system I touched very little freight, maybe six to ten loads total.
Dedicated tire account was all full hand driver unload.
Answer:
If you're aksing the percentage question, you also have to ask how many loads per day they run.
5% of 4000 (200) loads is a lot of touch if the touch load is yours. BOL
