The bus is leaving...
Question:
I am leaving for Werner orientation at their Allentown, PA, terminal in a few minutes. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you again for your great advice, support, and entertainment during the past couple of months while I was working on my CDL. I truly appreciate it. Whenever I am able to get access to a computer during my training over the next couple of months I'll keep you all up to date and share my stories with the next generation of Newbies. I wish you all the best. Be safe, stay positive, and don't loose sight of the reasons that you work so hard. See you on the road. I'll be the one in the blue truck. Answer: Good Luck hope you makeit. http://www.racewarkingdoms.com/cgi-bin/kds/rwk.cgi?referred+by+terrylb Answer: Thanks everybody! Here's the scoop... Tuesday: Took Greyhound at 12:01pm from Boston to Allentown via NYC. Arrived alive at 8:15pm. Called the Ramada, told them I was from Werner and I needed a pickup... An hour and a half later... took taxi to Ramada. Saved receipt. Front desk clerk: "Sorry we don't have a room ready yet. Let us buy you a drink at the bar... Had a beer and a burger at the bar. Highly recommend the burgers there. By the way... Don't even think about drinking any alcohol after the first night. Finally got a room at midnight. They had the room all along. I know this because my roomate was already in it sleeping. Wednesday: 6:30am. Woohoo! free coffee and muffins. 7:00am. Werner van picked us up right on time. 7:30am. Orientation begins. Safety Supervisor conducts entire orientation. Only five students in class. Everything goes like clockwork. Got poked and prodded, peed in a cup and got a medical card the next day. The mounds of required paperwork were carefully and thoroughly explained by Safety Supervisor. He really did a great job and was a pleasure to work with. Was Issued Driver handbook, hazmat book, fmcsr book, Photos taken, watched videos, took quizes, and had homework assigned. Back to hotel at 5:00. Thursday: 6:30am. Woohoo! free coffee and muffins. 7:00am. Werner van picked us up right on time. 7:30am. Orientation continues. Videos, quizes, and got employee photo ID and driver number, medical card, cab card, and other various and sundry items. Qualcom and paperless log training. Back to hotel at 5:00pm. Friday: Safety meeting and tests on the computer. Okay all done with orientation and ready for assignment to a trainer. HOLD EVERYTHING! Houston (err Omaha) we have a problem! Recruiter said that I could show up with temporary CDL. Fleet manager says nope that won't do. We're gonna buy you a bus ticket back home back home to wait for your hardcopy license to come in the mail. Grrrrrr. Back to hotel at 2:00pm. Saturday: Get greyhound bus from allentown to boston via NYC. Eight hours later as the bus pulls into Boston's South Station my cell phone rings. It's the wife. Oh, hi honey. Just wanted to let you know that your license came in the mail today. Looks like I'll be back on the bus to Allentown tomorrow. If you see a guy in a new Werner hat clawing at the window of a grayhound bus and drooling, that'd be me. Just smile and wave. Logistics aside, the orientation itself was very well done as far as that sort of thing goes anyway. More as it comes. Be safe. Ron P.S.--You can stop laughing now. ============================================== Ignorance is bliss.
