school
Question:
I am looking at a local technical school to obtain my CDL.The course is 6 weeks long at 40 hrs per week for a total of 240 hrs,and cost's $1800.It is not PTDI certified. From the reading I have done on this site and other's this sound's really cheap. What are your thought's on this school. Answer: Cheap does not mean poor and expensive does not mean high quality, and PTDI is not the end all be all of truck driving schools. There are many schools/programs that are not PTDI certified that meet or exceed all of the standards of this group. A few things you need to check into: 1: How many hours of actual behind the wheel time, on the road, will you have by graduation? IMHO you will need 10-12 hours min of actual hands on drive time. 2: How much hands on time will you get on the backing/practice range? Once again I feel you should get at least 10 hours total min hands on. 3: Is this program acceptable to the companies you are thinking about hiring onto upon graduation? Now is the time to find out, not after you fork out the money (and this is really the most imprtant of the three). For more things to look for in a "decent" school program check out the info listed at TruckSchoolsUSA.com. Answer: I agree with, uturn. BEFORE going to Any school.....Check with the carriers you're interested in to see if they hire from THAT school.(if they do Not hire from That school, get a list of schools they DO hire from.) Answer: Thank's for your replie's uturn and choclit snda, the reason I asked this question is, for the price of this school I could pay this out of my own pocket, wich is the way to go in my humble opinion,I just don't want to blow the money on some fly by night outfit.
