I am looking for information
Question:
I have done a search and have not been able to find any specific info...
I am planning to attend a truck driving school soon. I have been eyeing one that is based out of Pahrump Nevada named King of the Road Truck Driving which is owned by a man named Randy Finn. I believe that Mr. Finn has been at All Points Truck Driving School in Las Vegas prior to him opening his own school in Pahrump. I am interested in any info on this school that ppl might have.
The second part of this is that I want to find a good company to work for that has a terminal in Las Vegas, or anyone else that lives in the Vegas/Pahrump area that has info, suggestions, and experience.
Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Answer:
Hey Luman,
Check out AIT on Craig Rd in Las Vegas. I am going there in 2 weeks. They work with alot of companies (Werner, Central Refrigerated), Central said they will get you a dedicated run after 3 months. If you pay cash school is $2995.00

Were are you going to go work after school? Do you know there are foutune 500 and 100 compaies that will train you for free? You do have to work there 1 year, but still. You have to work some were. How are you going to go to a scholl that will get you a CDL.
That is all they will do. They will not get or give you any type of Over the road training or the basic human training in inter personal relationships. I know it sounds wacky. You will lean. You can go to a school(CDL MILL) then still have to go to a school at a carrier. Why not skip the middel person and let them pay for it? What do I know. I have only been down the road twice. I with years ove experiance and my wife with no experiance. We were the same thing out of school. Both new CDL holders with NO EXPERIANCE.(Even thou I had experiance. I had no "Over the road training") No one will hire you! Good luck wasting you moneu at a middel man.
I will train you to drive a truck ony 500 bucks. You drive my truck. and I will take you to the CDL course. This way you get road training...lol
Mnay schools will take 1, 2, 3 times at the state test to get your liceanse. They can care less. You have a CDL. Dosn't mean you are ready to hit the road with a full box of freight.202 N Main Street

Answer:
The school in pahrump is a 5 week course. I will not be paying anything to attend the school. The reason I will not have any money out of pocket is due to me relocating to nv at which time I will be unemployed. This allows me to qualify for vocation retraining.
The school offers job placement assistance, and they have recruiters come in to talk to you. Granted I won't have actual experience on the road, but any company that hires a new driver is going to put you through, at least in part, their training program. Everyone has to start somewhere...
AIG looks like a possibility. I will have to check into it further...from what I read on their site it appears that they are also accredited along with being pdti certified.
Thanks for the feedback....keep it coming!

Answer:

In trucking, particularly with obtaining a driver position, you really don't need this.
Your best job placement assistance is right here at TruckNet. Post a list of those companies you are considering... you will get the lowdown on them. Either that or use the search feature to find past postings with the lowdown.

Answer:
I think I would run as far away from central as I possibly could. If you like central then just go to Swift, they own Central. It does seem from what I've noticed some of the worst drivers and people with very bad hygene drive Central trucks. I of course could be wrong but it is what I've seen.
Job placement at a school is not a bad thing. For most it is actually a good thing. Depending on your back ground you may need to talk with some of the companies most schools use. If it were me and my back ground was good I would also do alot of lookingon my own. Schools usually have the standard training companies that come in trying to recruit, Swift, Werner, Central, Covenant and a list of others. Most of those companies are big and go through trainees like babies do diapers. They are always hiring. They will always be hiring. If it were me while i was looking for a school I would be just as actively looking for companies that are a step above the standard. I would find companies I was interested in and then find out what schools they hire from. Instead of simply accepting what came my way. I would also decide what kind of trucking I want to do, flat bed, tanks, reefers, heavy haul, dry van and many more. Then I would choose companies that will help me obtain my goals.
It's a whole lot different when you pick your own companies than it is when someone gives you a hanful of names and says pick one.
