Charlie,
Do your self a favor and take the 30 minute ride into Fort Lauderdale and go to McFatter Voc Tech.
9 week course, excellent instruction, and a third the cost of tuition Sage charges you.
I went and met with the guy from Sage before I went to McFatter. Very nice, and seemed to know what he was talking about, but was really persistent in talking about lease deals with CR England. Sage teaches you enough to get your CDL. That's it no more.
The McFatter course is 360 hours. It is M-F 0730 to 2pm. The yard trucks are old KW K-100 cabovers that are very well maintained. I did about 4 weeks in the yard practicing everyday for my skills test. Once I had my CDl we took the road trucks out and about all over Florida. From Downtown Fort Lauderdale/Miami to the back woods up through Imokalee, up to Sebring up 27, to Vero Beach Via I95. I logged 1100 miles on the road trucks alone. You certainly will not get that with Sage.
McFatter is also an accredited State School. You are taught by actual teachers who have been driving for years. One of the instructors helped write the updated version of the PTDI book. A lot of companies will take any and all students from McFatter, because they know they have a newbie that got a real good education.
Do yourself a favor and go talk to them. Set up an interview with Mrs. Cohen, then go talk to some of the students, and Mr Ponce, and Mr Waite the instructors.
If you have any questions e-mail me at cessna150fs@yahoo.com, and put McFatter in the subject header.
