Here are a few tips for you.
1. Check your blood sugar often and at various times of the day. Keep a log that includes date, time, how long before or after meals, snacks etc. Also it wouldn't hurt to include what you have eaten and when, and any excercise you have done. This way you can learn how various food effect you as well as excercise etc.
2. Split what you normally eat, caloric wise, per day into 3 smaller meals and 2 or 3 light snacks per day. This will help level out your blood sugar.
3. Make sure to take your medication according to your doctors instructions every day.
4. Keep food on the truck with you. Even something as simple as a jar of peanut butter and some bread. This way if you are stuck somewhere you will be able to eat something when you need to. Also keep some sugar packets or candy in the truck just in case you have an episode of extremely low blood sugar.
5. Watch your carb intake. This is a biggie. Carbs can cause your blood sugar to sky rocket as fast as heavily sugared foods can. Potatoes, breads, and pastas are sources of high carbs. You dont have to avoid them all together, just moderate them.
6. If you have not done so already , go and see a dietician. You can learn a lot about foods and dietary guidelines in 30 min to an hour and the visit really is not that expensive.
