i keep reading how bad conventional otr is in this forum. is expediting any better?

Every type of trucking has its ups and downs. There is going to beBS that you will have to deal with no matter what.
Is expediting better? That all depends on who you ask.

Actually...I would say it more depends on the type of driving you want to do.. Expediting is point A to point B with no time for truckstop B.S. in between. I did expediting for FedEx when I worked for the late M.S. Carriers back in the day, and for it me it was great. No sitting around at docks or screwin around with truckstops. But it takes a lot of determination and will-power and most importantly the ability to keep the wheels moving more often than not. Expediting is also palying a big part in freight movement today as alot of LTL and courier freight companies (i.e. FedEx, UPS) now contract to outside carriers to overnight large shipments to their terminals. It's hard work, but the work is there, and to me, thats whats most important./
