Something flatbed newbies should know.
Question:
If your getting a load that requires to tarp and its to tall to climb up with out ladder and the fork lift operator dont set ur tarps on top of load for you dont tarp it leave. Its not worth the risk of falling carrying the tarps up a ladder. I dont care how strong you are. I have left more than one place with out tarping because of just that.

Answer:
Good advice if you don't mind paying for damage on product that should
have been tarped per shipper instruction.
Answer:
I think I would call my company and either get some help or stay right there.

Answer:
That is the wrong advice. I have been in the flatbed buisness a long time and you deal with the situation. Do not get mad and leave. If the forklift driver will not set your tarps on your load, inform him that you are unable to get them up there and you need his help with the forklift and inform him that you will not move your truck nor will you sign the bills until he does so. If he still refuses then go talk to his supervisor. One thing you need to know. That is your truck and trailer, no matter his owns it, because you are responsiable for it and the load. You are the one that will haul it down the road. You inform them how you want it loaded, because once you sign the bill of lading it is your baby. If you see any damage make them take it off and put some undamage product on.
Because if you don't it will cost you at your destination.
I took a load of sheet rock to KC once, the forklift driver unloaded the whole load and then brought my bills to me and had wrote on the bills 5 sheets damage because of being wet. I had run in rain and had a hole in my tarps. I told him okay bring the five sheets back and put them on the trailer. He said they were on the bottom of the stack in the warehouse. I said so get them or I am not leaving. My company will make me pay for them and I could use them at home. He was mad, took my bills into the office and whited the remarks out and wrote load damage free and signed it and told me too get going and not come back I said my pleasure. You see them guys all the time delivering that board in the rain.

Answer:
I had about 8 cases of half broken budweiser once. They said I would have to pay so I said put them back on the trailer. They just laughed and walked away. That just wasn't right.

Answer:
BigJohn is correct. Most forklift drivers are more than happy to place your tarps on the load. If they refuse they have a boss or get intouch with your company. Sooner or later those tarps will be placed on there for you. If you are required to tarp it then tarp it dont take the chance a load clam. That is money out of your pocket and it is preventable just take the time to tarp.

Answer:
Since someone had a question about flatbedding, I thought I'd bring this thread back to the top.
