Question for recent cdl grads?
Question:
Curious question, people that recently took their cdl written test. Are the questions multiple choice? Thanks, Sophbail Answer: They are Blue Book essay. Example, "Please discuss the function of the conocculator valve in the truck's air brake system?" Also, "Compare and Contrast the pre and post-January 4, 2004 HOS and their affect on logbook compliance in the state of (where you live)?" Be sure to write at least 3 paragraphs on each subject and include all details available. After having done that, the airheaded high school drop out who works at the BMV will grade you responses in a subjective system. OR, you can take the muliple guess test and hope the BMV employee can line up the key and grade your ABCD answers accurately! MrClark—Groucho Marx 1890-1977 Answer: Multiple guess, 4 choices, usually. Most states have sample tests online. Washington state does if you want to take a look and see what the questions are like. Most of them are common sense. I aced my HazMat test and all I did was just scan the HazMat section of the drivers guide. Good luck. -J Answer: Driver J, Thanks for your informative answer Sophbail Answer: 99% of people who take it pass, even the completely illiterate ones. It's a real selective industry ...Jay Gould __________________________ This post coming to you live, from Jesus Land !!! Answer: The tests are multiple guess and true/false. The BIG secret is to fully read the question and all the answers. Most of the time 2 of the 4 possible answers are pure non-sense and the other 2 are true possibles and sometimes are worded in such a way that if you overlook a word or two in either the answer or the question you will choose the wrong one. There are a number of online, free, practice tests available. Do a search here under CDL Practice tests or in your favorite search engine and you should get some hits. Answer: Instead of repeating Uturn, I'll just say he hit it on the head. Be sure to look over the CDL prep manual for your state, and take all the online practice tests you can. Answer: Sophbail : Here's what you have to pass to get the CDL permit in Texas: 1. General Knowledge : taken by all applicants. 2. The air brakes test : you must take if you plan to drive vehicle w/air brakes 3. The combination vehicles test : same deal as above 4. The Haz-Mat test : if you want to haul Haz-Mat or waste in amounts which need placarding. 5. The Tanker test : required if you want to be a tanker-yanker. 6. The doubles/triples test : if you want to pull this stuff. 7. The pre-trip vi test : taken by all A and B applicants and 8. Passenger transport test : if you want to drive a private charter, school bus, or steer a greydog. In Texas, at least where I took my written, you have two choices : either on computer and multiple guess / true - false, or if you can't read too well, you can hear the questions over an ear-phone deal that is exactly whats on the screen. No more paper and pencil tests for cdl apps. Also all apps have to read and write english. At least that was the case when I took mine. Of course you don't have to take them all if you don't want the indorsements. BOL and be safe Codger "Stop holding me back. I'm going to clown college." Homer Simpson Answer: Thanks all for your help. I really appreciate all your information, great help! Sophbail Answer: Answer: What's a conocculator valve? Answer: It's used for starving. Thesaurusly Opposite of a saturation valve??? Did I win? -J Answer: That damn lever on the steering column..the one you can't use '' Answer: Soph you will have no problem with the CDL test. Minimal studying will achieve your CDL license. Most of what you learned in school will cover the test. Here in Nebraska it is pretty much like U-turn and Oldcogger said. You take a general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles, and pre-trip inspection test. The school here in Lincoln was a third party tester so we took our driving and backing tests at the school. Everything else such as Hazmats are endorsements which alot of companies require depending on who you going to work for. U-turn hit it on the nail-head, pretty much multiple guess and several of them you can toss out right away. Don't know what it is like in other states but here you can fail one day and go back the next. Pretty much set up for you to gain your license with a minimal fee of $55 dollars here in this state. Read over the questions at the back of each chapter and you should have no problem. Tests here usually have about 20 or 25 questions with the exception of the general knowledge test which had 50. See you on the road and good luck... Cub Answer: Thanks all for your help..I did what you said and crist cdl was a great study guide. I passed and know have my cdl temp permit. Now is the decision to go to shool for the driving part or let my husban teach me? Sophbail Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
