when you hate your job
Question:
i have only been driving on my own for a month. i worked myself psycholgically for the whole month. the first week, i kept saying to myself, "i like this job, i like this job". by the second week, i was saying, "it's for the money, it's for the money". by the third week, i was throwing my fist in the air yelling at the four wheeler in front of me and cursing the consignees children. by the fourth week, i was saying, "screw this job, screw this job." by the fifth week, i realized that you are not expected to fall in love with driving. Once I realized that it is ok to get angry, aggrivated, or annoyed sometimes, things got easier. i wasn't expecting anything good to come out of looking for the lost plant of americold, hidden in the depths of the woods with a teeny, tiny sign adorning, "trucks enterance here". and when i do get a good shipper, who has good directions, a big neon sign and a clear 1/4 mile run to back up into the docks, with a load ready, immediately, to put onto the trailer, why, i am so ecstatic, i forget completely what had me so riled up just the other day. Answer: The stresses of the job will do you in real fast if you do not find a constructive way to deal with them as they occur. Trying to ignore things, bottling it up, etc is not dealing with it. All you are doing is adding insult to injury and injury to insult and before you know it something is going to explode big time. It may be your heart (hear attack) or it may be your temper and you find yourself parked on top of the little Mazda with the punks who just flipped you off and then cut you off. Yep, its OK to get angry, its OK to hate the job, its also OK to be happy, and to like the job. There are days, or even weeks when it all seems such a pointless waste, and then there are other times when you can not see yourself doing anyother job in the whole world. Deal with the bad and let it go, and then hold onto the good. Answer: Good???????????????There's good in this job??????????? Really what Uturn2001 is great advice. Only thing that I would add is to get out of the truck as often as you can and go for a walk or jog or something and get your mind thinking in another direction. Good luck Answer: Hang in there blackcat it gets better. Its rough as hell your first couple months. Answer: thanks for the support! i will be heading out soon to indiana to another walmart distr. center. there is just some things that they can not teach you in school! Answer: hahaha i like youre post, youre definately gonna make it that remind's me of a place i went, the direction they gave me was, after the big hill turn right onto the gravel road just before odl wally, whos old wally,oh hes a rabbit hunter you will see the sign on top of is shack, then we will be waiting for you on the gravel road, you have to backup about a mile to our barn Answer: You might try the decaffinated drinks Marines stay and fight, Bush makes sure of that. Fox News, just a bowel movment away Blind faith in a bad leader, is not patriotism Answer: I was outside earlier and started talking to my neighbor, he told me he'd keep an eye on the place once I go OTR next month. Then of all the dumbass questions he asked WHY I wanted to go back to driving ....... Hmmmmmmmmm ............ #1 I hate the ideal of a plant manager or some other brown nosing POS looking over my shoulder while I work. #2 The only jobs around here MIGHT pay $10 hr and that is if I drive 40 miles one way. #3 I've already had 4 hand and arm surgeries due to 13 yrs of factory work, don't need that crap anymore. Of course by then I also started the trucker's tales of lousy docks, limited hours, short pay, lousy food and the overall contempt you have to deal with on a daily basis. WHY then does anyone drive a truck ????? It's fairly easy ......... We're CRAZY [/img] Answer: Welcome to the miseries of trucking The miseries of trucking will drive you out of trucking unless you find some way of finding a way to deal with them as Uturn2001 suggested. I for one started writing. Right now I am sitting in a mall parking lot waiting for dispatch to find something for me to do. I was run out of hours no truck stops so I slept under a bridge and came to the mall for breakfast at McDonalds. I now have a load and am on my way to Duluth MN Oh boy headed to the North Country I am so happy I still have my winter clothes in the truck. Later blackat Remember if you make it a year in trucking you out lasted 50% of those who started at the same time you did. Trucking is not easy or of everyone. Some days I wonder why I do it. Time for me to go back to work, later. Answer: I quit this job at least three times a day. Yesterday the tandems needed to be slid forward to balance out. No biggie I thought......those things decided they just didn't want to move. A quick call to Taxibob 1) to relieve my anger 2) to get any hints. Trucking lesson 3: Make sure you are on level ground when sliding tandems An hour or so I left the Pilot in Dickson,TN for the Flyin J up the road a peice where the ground was level. Parked the truck, went to the back...presto whamo...pins pulled with no effort at all. "Hey Daddy...why is that man banging his head against his trailer?" "he's a truck driver, son. They do it all the time." Answer: it's still a job. that is all it is. some people debate that. over the radio i heard a few drivers talking about it. one said, "truck driving is just a job!" the second driver said, "no it's not, it's a lifestyle!" the third driver called out, "this is what i do to keep me from being a homeless alcoholic!" Answer: Hahaha that was funny.LOL All this feel good crap is a relatively new phenomenon, and it is just stupid. The fact is it is a job, something people do to make a living, and it should be treated as such. The need to be 'happy' at it is just psychopathic, neurotic BS; it's a frigging job, and you should expect to be properly compensated for it, not delude yourself with all that 'It's what you make of it ' nonsense the companies want to sell you, to keep their seats filled cheap. Of all the things to 'Dream About Being', only an idiot would dream about truck driving, unless you are Peter Pan or something. People do it for a variety of reasons, but mostly because they hope it pays better than what they were doing or are doing now; the rest of the blowhard feel good crap is just that, crap.Jay Gould __________________________ This post coming to you live, from Jesus Land !!! Answer: Don't be a Negabie,Dominoes. Let's not confuse the Folks with facts over fiction. Answer: Trucking is a wonderful job, great benefits. Lots of cross country travel. Kind of like being a "paid tourist". The money well, it's always more than most newbies are paid before driving. The home time is also great. Most people only need to see their families on occasion anyway. It always felt good to me to "visit my home". Trucking is a lifestyle. Why does that sound like one of the most insane comments I've ever heard. It is a job and needs to be treated as such. Be a professional, make as much money as you can and get home to your family as often and as fast as possible. Your life needs to be where your home/family is. Answer: 1. Why I drive a truck: See my board handle 2. Why I owned a truck: See #1 3. Why I now teach driving: See #1 4. Why I am always considering buying another truck: See # 1 '' Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
