Question on a couple of companys ?
Question:
Do you guys know of any companys that will hire me fresh out of school and put me on regional runs right away ? I really need to be home on weekends with small children at home . I understand I will have to be away a few weeks for training but after that I would like to be home weekly . Im looking at Star out of Nashville or possably USxpress . Any others ? Thanks in advance . William Answer: You might try Schneider too, I know they have a lot of dedicated and regional accounts. Answer: awww cool , Thanks squirrel , I have heard good things about them . That would be great if they had regional !!!!! Answer: Try at the Old Dominion terminal in Cookeville, Nashville or White Pine. I know White Pine is hiring. Answer: Give Millis a call 800-284-8152. They have a Southeast regional where you can be home weekends and a dedicated fleet outta Budweiser in Cartersville, GA where you could get thru the house some during the week too. You could probably get on dedicated right away, but would probably have to wait for a few months to get on regional. You will probably have to wait at most companies for a bit to get on SE regional. New guys gotta wait their turn doncha know. Answer: Thanks guys . I had to go to get my DOT card today in White pine and I couldn't get over how many Old diminion trucks were there . LOL , Then I passed by thier termional and realized why .... hahaha I looked at Millis last night online , looks like a good company also . I Start school on the 22nd at United in Dandrige , I may wait and see what the recruters have to say when they make a visit . Anybody heard of Mcelroy out of Alabama ? I spoke with them today , They start right out of training at .31 cpm and home every weekend . But they do NYC and that inc. tarp pay ? Not sure on thier equipment either , they use Mack , I don't know if thats good or bad , just seem smaller then some of the other trucks ...... Answer: Yep. US Xpress has been concentrating on regional operation for some time. In TN, you are in a prime spot for SE regional. You should get good weekly or better hometime from there. www.xpressdrivers.com/regional.html Answer: I forgot to mention that I am an owner operator with Millis. If you are interested in Millis, you need to look into it before you go to school. They will not hire inexperienced drivers unless they go through Millis' school. They have a school in Cartersville, GA. It is $500 and a one year employment agreement. Answer: Wnabedrvr, You passed by OD's terminal, did you stop in and talk to anyone? They offer free training and in your case would have no time away from home for training. Or you could get your license and then have just road training which again would keep you home. There's definetly a lot of trucks in White Pine with well over 400 linehaul drivers not counting city drivers. There's also 5 other terminals in TN. Answer: No didn't stop , looked like the place was very busy . I stopped at the pilot truck stop next to it though , that place was hopping also .... Im looking at a few companys now and Old Diminion is one of them . Star is one , and Mcelroy trucking is another one . Answer: The # I have for Millis recruiting is 800-937-0880. Answer: You do understand that OD is a different type of operation than the other companies you names. OD is a LTL (less than truckload) carrier. What that means to you as a driver is no sleeping in truckstops, all drop and hook terminal to terminal, paid motel rooms for breakdowns and layovers. Drive either single in a daycab,no sleeper stay in motels, or team in a sleeper cab. Unless you become a P&D driver you will pull doubles. Answer: Just about every OD truck I saw that had a sleeper was pulling doubles , then again I saw alot of day cabs pulling doubles also , so I don't know what is what really ? Im pretty sure a company like that will probably want drivers with some otr experance anyway . I know Averiet Express here in my town wants at least 6 months . So I will more then likely have to pay my dues either way ..... Answer: All linehoul pulls doubles, daycabs and sleepers. Sleepers are teams and daycabs are single drivers. Single drivers sleep in motels or their own bed. All linehaul runs terminal to terminal drop and hook. The daycabs you see pulling single trailers are local pickup and delivery drivers. They are the only ones that go to a customer and they are paid hourly as they are local. Search the archives and read my previous posts. If you don't go to a terminal and ask you will never know the facts. Your choice. I just had a friend with zero experience get hired and trained. He hooked up with a partner with a dedicated bid run. He started driving in Jan. He now works 4-5 days a week and makes .32 per mi. which is starting pay. Answer: Thanks Beeman , You have been a big help. So what , I would just drop by a fill out an app or call them or what ? Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
