Age question?
Question:
I have always heard that at 21 you can take training and go otr driving truck. Now im been told by people(not companies) that companies will send u though training, get you your cdl's but they can't let you drive till your 23.....so u pay for training for nothing, cause when your 21 u have to do training all over again because u havnt driven for 2 years. I dont exactly know which is true, ive always heard and thought u could drive at 21....But now im curious. Anyone have any answers here? Btw, The reason i was told u couldnt drive at 21, is cause its the Law.

Answer:
The law says you have to be 21 to operate a commercial motor vehicle, so you can get the highly sought after C.D.L.!
Now the downside......most carriers will not hire you until you are 23, due in part to insurance regulations.
Don't dispair, there are some companies that will hire you at 21.
Try going local for a few years, keep your M.V.R. spotless during this period, then go out and seek that over the road job if you still desire!

Answer:
You can obtain a CDL at 18 for Intrastate meaning you stay within your state of issue. You must be 21 for Interstate. As far as the hiring requirements for a carrier depends on who their insurance will insure. I hope this answer your question.

Answer:

Local and long distance hauling available.

Answer:
Is 100% on the money here.
18 yo, can obtain a CDL for intrastate driving only. (Can only drive in home state)
21 yo: Are eleigible under federal regs to drive interstate in a CMV. (Commercual Motor Vehicle)
Many companies, however, will not hire OTR drivers who are under 23, and in some cases under 25, due to insurance reasons. There are a few out there that will hire at 21 providing you can provide a totally clean driving record.

Answer:
Can anyone give me some info on Local driving? How i go about getting my cdl's to drive local? And, Any companies around Charlotte nc, or west of charlotte nc? How does local work, pay? What do you mostly haul,to where?

Answer:
I am Proof right now you can get hired at 21 years old with many good carriers. You just have to ask when you call straight out, "Do you hire student drivers at 21 years of age?" and "What are you requirments for hiring?", these 2 questions will let you know if you stand a good chance of getting prehired or not. Many people on here told me too, that it would be hard to get OTR with a company being so young, but I can say that this is very unture. I am a newbie driver for FFE Transportation out of Dallas TX. I just turned 21 in August 2003 and had no problem getting prehired by 20 different carriers, my problem was comming up with the money to go to school. So, I ended up going with my company because they cut me alot of slack. Good Luck to you in your quest. Trucking is a very rough life. You wil find out in your first few weeks of training if you can take it or not. I remember what our safety director said to me almost 2 weeks ago, "80% of all students that go into this industry go right back out because they can't take it, you need to find out if you are right for it yourself" I will always remember his words.

Speed Drums, We have terminals in a few states but, some are owned by the Conwell Corp. so American Eagle lines and lisa motorlines use them also. We have in Flordia, Texas, Tennesse, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Cali., Utah and few other places but, these are the ones I have been to so far. I think we have like 1 or 2 in Mexico and Canada but, I haven't been dispatched there nor will I ever sense im on a dedicated run.
