Question:
Hello guys, I am giving a speech on why people should respect truck drivers on the road. Can anyone give me any imformation on where to find some stats about truck driving or any information that would be helpful. I drive a straight truck in the summer time but I can't just go on what I believe, I need facts and sources (atleast 10 of them) If anyone could help I'd 'precciate it. Thanks. Answer: It is called treated others as you want to be treated. Reasons 1-10 are easy "the Golden Rule" That is why truckers should be respected. It isn't only truckers. Respect goes both ways. I don't care if you are President or McDonalds restroom cleaner, you are a person and deserve to be respected. It doesn't matter what your title or profession is. What America needs to realize is that you give respect to people and demand the same in return. Sure you can argue, but understand and respect other peoples views, simple communication. Not alot of truckers respect themselves or anyone else. So when someone like me shows up at a shipper/reciever they think they can just $hit on me like the last guy. Well, bud I do respect you and expect the same in return. It is all about treating people the way you want to be treated. Not alot of that in the industry. It is alot of screw everyone else as long as I am getting mine. Tim Honorary Failure at Trucking WWJBD - What Would Jimmy Buffett Do??? This is USAF 2T2 and I approve this message. Answer: ...is realizing that the target of your ridicule has nothing to lose except a minimum wage job. You also want to be very nice to postal employees. - Pain is temporary. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever. - Answer: Why Respect truck drivers Well there is nothing that you can buy that a truck driver did not haul at least once most of the things in the stores are in and out of trucks several times be for they show up on the shelf. Truckers are the safest drivers on the road according to the national safety council. Are there exceptions you bet? But how many car drivers have Million Mile safe driving awards. A few truckers have 3 after 30 years of safe driving. If you have an accident, break down, or get in some trouble on the road chances are a trucker will stop or be sending help. Are there other reasons to respect truckers yes but I am not going to do all your work for you. Good luck on your speech. Do the VI maintain your following distance maintain your lane position observe the speed limit observe the things around you and keep good records Safe driving to you. Joe Answer: Hello guys, I am giving a speech on why people should respect truck drivers on the road. These days the best reason is the trucks they're driving can weigh in excess of 40 tons, while the average car weighs in at less than 2 tons. Simple physics and common sense. They will kill you dead in the blink of an eye, and the driver will have a good chance of walking away while you and whoever's in the car with you go to the morgue. They can't stop or turn on a dime, and damn few, including me, will swerve all over 2 to four lanes of traffic to keep from running over your silly azz when you do something stupid like playing games in front of or beside me. Learning about driving around big trucks and what to look out for should be a mandatory part of driver education, yet it rarely is. That is why truckers should be respected. It isn't only truckers. Too old fashioned for the last two or three generations, though. Maybe there will be a nostalgiac cultural movement back to those values in the future. The last quote pretty much pervades society as a whole, and not just trucking. ___________________________ Humans are amazing creatures. Trucking and truck drivers are a vital link in the USA (and the world's for that matter) economy. You would be very hard pressed to find even one item that you own, or could purchase that at least some part of it was not transported on a truck at some point or another. 2. Drivers are ordinary men and women who must, on a daily basis, make the impossible possible. Drivers must perform a juggling act of sorts with shipping schedules, and an ever changing array of federal, state, and local laws, as well as various company policies to make deliveries and pickups in a timely and safe fashion. 3. Drivers must aquire and use a large amount of skill to manuver a vehicle that is often 8 1/2 feet wide and 75-80 feet long (or bigger), and can often weigh 80,000 lbs (or more sometimes) down roads that are only 10-12 feet wide that are filled with motorists who are often impaired in some fashion due to drugs, booze, cell phones and all sorts of distractions, and do so knowing that even a "minor" accident can cause serious injury or death to the weight and size of the vehicle they are driving. With all that said truck drivers have fewer accidents per million miles of driving than your average car/light truck driver. 4. Drivers are people too, and for that reason if nothing else should be shown respect, at least until such a time as the individual shows he/she is not worthy of it. 5. Many drivers spend long periods away from home (10-14 days or longer) to do a job that is vital to keep the country going. They often face all sorts of prejudice, hostility, misunderstanding, etc from those they encounter, but yet they keep doing the job. While away from home they live in a space smaller than many walk in closets found in newer mobile homes.
