Question:
Zup dude. Getting ready for usx.......what kind of equipment do they have in there trucks........can i get a fridge and a microwave........whats a good site to get such accessorys..........whats your average pay as a newbee...im going to attend there school so they will be takeing 50 buks a week outa my chek....... Answer: Hey, Birddog! Congratulations, you'll have a lot of fun! Yes, you can get fridge, microwave, tv, etc.. Where, I don't know, but the truckstops all have stuff like that. The company will install inverters up to 1700 watts, so you don't have to go with all the 12volt stuff if you don't want to. I just use a 5-day cooler and eat out of that for about $20 a week. I buy 2-liters of drinks and pour into a smaller capped bottle I have. That way I can stow it next to me on the floor in the holder while I'm running. You will have to bite the bullet for the first few weeks with a trainer, but after that you go to mileage pay (I have no idea what that is now, but I know it's up from when I started several months ago). I started at .25 cpm, and was up to .26 by the time I got my dedicated (at .35cpm!) I ran from 2,400 - 2,600 miles a week on average. My dispatcher never failed to get me home when I requested it (but you do have to be prepared to go with the flow of freight in a pinch, and be plus or minus a day from the mark - although it never happened to me). Note the beginning of the year is traditionally slow on freight, but by the time you get through school and upgraded to first-seat driver, it should be back up by then. Best advice is, although it will take you several weeks to get up to speed on income, hang with it. The pay increases come before you know it. Keep a positive attitude and demeanor, and you'll fast develop a sterling reputation with the company. One thing you'll notice about USX, everyone seems to be very happy there - from corporate to the drivers. Sure, there are always malcontents, especially in this business, but I rarely hear complaints from other USX drivers. Good luck to you! I guess you're going to Medway for school. The Driver Liason there is Lin Sexton, she's a sweetheart and was very helpful to me in getting over some of the new driver fears and uncertainty.
