Trucking Industry
Question:
Recently I decided to quit my training with Crete Carriers due to the fact that once I put it together I just wasn't going to get home enough. I am from Lincoln, NE. and I'm looking for a trucking firm that gets you home a little more often than Crete. I am 57, retired and don't need 3 - 4 weeks on the road at a shot. If you old truckers have any ideals let me know on here. I was still in my training part of my driving so would have to probably go with a firm that trains. I am also a graduate of SCC. Thanks for your input. Cubby Answer: Just talked to a recruiter for Midwest-Coast. Does anyone know anything about them?? Cubby Answer: How often do you want to be home? ...every weekend? You might want to check out Schneider or another carrier that has dedicated runs that will have you home every weekend. Schneider provides training. I'm not a recruiter. Answer: Cubby; cotact Warner, they have regional runs that get u home every weekend, and I know their termial is in Omaha. Catch you on the flip! Answer: Originally posted by cubby: Just talked to a recruiter for Midwest-Coast. Does anyone know anything about them?? Cubby I used to be a trainer for them. They are a good company, with I 80 as one of the main freight corridors. I live in Blair, NE and I used to get home every 2-3 weeks, with a night at home on the way through here and there. They have an excellent training program, too, with safety right on top of the list. Answer: Magicman: Talked to Dave (recruiter in Sioux Falls) said I was conditionally hired. Whats this mean?? If you have any other info let me know before I take a jump into this company. Sounds like a good deal and have to go thru the Omaha terminal. The only thing that sounds a bit shakey to me is the 50,000 miles training at 10 cents a mile, but Dave said if my training went well I probably wouldn't have to do the entire 50,000 miles. Anyone have any input into this?? Thanks.... Cub Answer: I sent you an instant message last night on yahoo, with my phone #. Give me a call and I can tell you just about anything you want to know about them. I also know both the good and bad about owners in the area. I'll send that I/M again, so you have the phone #. Answer: The only thing that sounds a bit shakey to me is the 50,000 miles training at 10 cents a mile, Back in 1990, when I did my training with CRST, we only got .08cpm. Although I've never drvn for MCT, I used to drv for Action Carriers, which has a terminal in Sioux Falls, right behind the MCT terminal & they really seem to be about SAFETY. They also used to do a lot of Bar-B-Qing for Drvr Appreciation days. Answer: Just what is Crete offering for hometime after training? Last I heard it was 10-14 days out, also whatever the hometime policy is, why didnt you find out BEFORE going to work for them. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: "but Dave said if my training went well I probably wouldn't have to do the entire 50,000 miles. Anyone have any input into this??" Better check that part out really good. This just might mean you will be teaming for 50,000 miles regardless of how well your training goes. Answer: I did check it out uturn, and as with everyone else you get told one thing and it turns out to be something else. You being an old hand at this should know that's the way it works. Weather, loads, dispatching or whatever. Probably true with most companies. Being new everything sounded attractive and my wife works there so away I went. Not knocking Crete but just wasn't a fit for me at this point of my life. Don't really know what might be at this time.. Thanks for input anyways buddy !! Answer: I checked my IM's and didn't get anything.. Send me an email at cubbyfan65233@yahoo.com. Would like to talk about this if you have some time and thanks Sandi for input !!! Cub Answer: I would really give Warner a call cubby I think you would like the training progarm and the pay. They have regional runs and they do get drivers home on the weekends. Also you asked about being hired conditionally, that means if you pass a drug test, a road test and have a CDL, with their required endorsements you are hired. But that does not mean that you have to go work for them, if your undecided you can contact the company and tell them your still job searching, they understand that they must compete with other companies. When your decided on whom you would like to drive for then go with that company. Do your homework and research on all of the companies before you choose one. Catch you on the flip! Answer: why did you stop training so far into it and now thinking bout going with another OTR company you had probly the best trainer around far as i could tell now gonna put yourself right back into it dosnt sound right to me.
