Getting ready to start my christmas break.
Unloaded chinatown 0800 hrs lost angelas ca. 1000hrs drive one hour to load for 1400 hrs load to phoenix az for off time.
Sat in LA dock from 1100 hrs to 2330 hrs waiting to load. And the punch line is I sat between two company trucks local drivers the whole time, they were getting paid by the hour.
Now 2330 hrs. LOad is due in phoenix az, 0600hrs. target distribution, a drop.
So what to do? Drive to TA cherry street. Sleep 6 hours, and then drive to phoenix az for 1200 hrs, drop trailer, 6 hours late. start hometime.
Woman working window at target distribution is ex otr team driver. Game we play me again, late again. Last time I was there I thought I was 4 hours late, late loading. And she said target did not even show me on their computer as inbound for receiving. yeah right.
After sitting in dock for 18 hours losing my mind. dispatch said why did you not do the sleeper berth thing to start your hometime on time. Lets see drive all night then 0600 start off time by sleeping, a drop at a distribution center that will sit there.
start off time dec 23, 1500hrs. to dec 27th 1500 hrs. ask for till next day dec 28th 0800hrs. dispatch nope can not have 5 days, only 96 hours. ok could under stand this if there was work to do. but coming off 1800 mile weeks.
dec 27th back in truck, 1500hrs. no load.
dec 28th, sit all day, load to lost angelas ca. 2000 hrs overnighter. 2200 load cancells.
dec 29th, 1800 hrs loaded buckeye az walmart. loaded 6 hours late.
right, came back to work after 96 hours break and it is 51 hours before I am loaded turning miles.
dec 30th deliver el passo tx,
missed appointmant by one hour as this receiver goes home early. they did not even stay to the 1200 hrs posted.
dec 31, deliver next am. 0800hrs.
jan 1, sit wait.
jan 2 load 1600 hrs to kansas cty.
well I had about 500 miles in my first 6 days back off break.
point of story. newbies you better have your money saved, backup plan, they got you if you are paycheck to paycheck.

You newbie being on the internet are lucky to be getting info. any info. I 1998 drove for SWIFT out troutdale or. Thought it was a job drive 2500 miles a week, get paid. Phil Hendrie funny I did not even know trucks were goverened untill every truck on the road passed me by. Thought you just drove the speed limit got the job done.
Shortage of drivers,no but, shortage of miles. yesterday talked to driver from my company 24 year schoolteacher, principal from florida, now driving company truck. last week 1400 miles, and he has bills to pay.

In new jersey driver was given post office box as address, so he goes to post office uses initative, gets physical address, drives to receiver. Finds out load has been cancelled for two days. company finally paid him two days layover, as he sat thought about deadheading in to quit.
The turnover out here is real, not enought miles for every one,

Not meaning to belittle you Pat; but I have to ask: Did you call ahead to dispatch and let them know you're going to be late? When they stroke you around like that for no reason, do you take it on the chin and say nothing? If you called ahead, and they knew you probably would'nt be unloaded, they should have been able to get you a relay, or be able to drop it off. You DAMNED sure should be paid for waiting around loading. And if you are'nt saying something to somebody about stroking you around, OR if they still do it after you do say something, hell find another job.
Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off!

as you see Pat,it's a waist of time,the first reply points the finger at you as the cause of your problems.
Nobody wants to believe it could be like that.
They will ignore all the loosers like you(nothing personal) and look for the winners stories,it's the way the lottery works also,people ingnore all the loosers and think they will be a winner like the guy they read about hitting the jackpot last week.
