Update - Newbie Flatbedder (ROEHL)
Question:
Well it's been awhile since I last posted. I did run through the house the weekend of the 10th/11th but I didn't get to posting.
Anyway - Phase 1 is complete. I'll be starting Phase 2 Mon or Tues, fortunatly with a fella I went to RDTC with.
Lets see if I can pick up where I left off.
Came out of the house on the 5th. and delivered to Oshkosh,WI (load of steel).
Then deadhead to Manitowoc,WI picked up some bagged lime for a place in Yardville, NJ. This run East was quite interesting and mostly uneventful until we got on I80 East of Du Bois, PA as many of you have probably heard a freak white out came in that A.M. and there were three separate multi-vehicle pileups on I80. The one we were heading into had about 40 cars and big trucks with a tanker split open and burning fuel. The Interstate was to shut down for about 36 hours and we were detoured off at exit 158, had to run South through Stae College,PA and around Harrisburg then continued East on 76. The weather for us was actually quite nice, but I got a taste of some nice downgrades.
Jan 7th I believe, got dispatched to Apalachin,NY for some lumber. I took the reins over in Binghamton headed West toward Erie on 86 for our fuel stop. DT snoring very loud out like a light. About an hour after departure I start running into white-out conditions. So I just slow down and ease 'er up. DT wakes up and visibility is down to about 50 feet with no dicernable lines in the road to follow. I was getting pretty anxious by this time and I said that I was done for the evening. Well, he had other plans had to get to Erie, I thought no way well get there in the A.M. but he sat with me and talked me through it and I was greatful for it. Dino was able to take my edge off and all was well.
Dropped our load in Michigan the dispatched North a bit to relay a load. A big HVAC unit for a Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth,MI.
Thursday the 8th we picked up a load of lumber form an Amish fella and wouldn't ya know it half the load still needed to be cut (BY HAND) when we arrived. So spent and interesting day with the simple folk Thursday.
Friday found us running back through the house for the weekend for a Monday A.M. delivery in Shawano,WI
The following two weeks were pretty much the same. Ran to Houston on Mon for a Wed delivery the picked up in Jewett, TX Wednesday for another Monday Delivery in Stevens Point. Instead of running through the house for 4 days we decided to taker slow and get my days done so i could get out of the truck and on to Phase 2. Ran from Point to Wapaca and out to Fargo,ND and back this last week. So that brings me to current I think.
I'm still having a good time The last week I had complete control and nearly no help from the DT. Which was fine everything went off without a hitch. And This week I'll 20 days from my own truck.
Semper Fidelis
Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone

Answer:
Glad to see your still enjoying it! Phase II might be a little tougher than you think - but remember, the goal is 20 days from now when you get your own truck. Stick it out and it's worth it when your on your own. Good luck, and keep smiling!!
