Answer: but as far as some of the "major" training companies that might be worth looking into Willis Shaw Trans AM Roehl Millis (if you have not already attended school as they require you to attend thier school) Crete or Schaeffer (same parent company) I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Originally posted by daytrader: Do not be surised if peopel liek Schnider, US Express, Swift and so on can offer better training. Hahahahahahahaha. Hilarious. Answer: Just who do you think companies like Werner, Swift, PAM, USA Truck use to provide initial training? Well in case you dont know they use driving schools and programs that anyone can attend. For the most part none of these companies really have thier own schools, solely owned and operated by them. In fact the schools that PAM and USA Truck will send you to are 2 week wonder courses, and some of the others get in on this too. There are some really good private schools and programs out there that are not rip offs aka mills. You just got to look for them. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I had my CDL but no OTR traing. I had to attend a ten day traing and was paid by the week. They also covered the housing and meals. This kinda made me mad because I had years of experiance. I did learn a lot. It was well worth the time. If you do not have your CDL they will still pay you after the first week. As long as you work for them for 1 year you owe nothing. If you quit within that year they figure the balance on the 3500. cost. They may have changed a few things. It has been a little bit since I last looked at the program. I do not know if US Express will pay you or not. They have a similar deal like Sch. You can just go to theeir school and OTR training for 3500. Seems much cheaper then some of these non PDI certified schools that charge 5-10 grand and charge 15-20% interest.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: I'm going to All State Career in Lester, Pa. It's just south of the airport. They go past just the basics that the school offers, because the instructors put in there real life experiences. They all have atleast a milliom safe miles under there belts and they share experiences and stories from that time. The school is 24 weeks; 10 classroom, laws, logs, hazmat, and trip plannig. and 14 range and road. On the range you learn how the backing skills; Straight line, backwards lane change, sight/blind side paralell, alley dock, and all skills. You get two weeks on each more if needed. On the road and I've only been there twice, But your first trip is around Lester were there is no traffic and you just learn shifting. Then the second and so on you go in traffic, on my second trip I drove through Center City. Let me tell you driving over a drawbridge is a bit scary. But the instructors seem never to run out of pactience (Idon't know how I get p*ssed at myself let alone when others are driving). However I feel the seven grand was well spent. I am getting a great deal of knowledge I would have never gotten from a shorter course. I am now only eight weeks out from completion and am starting to look into getting my pree hires and finding a job where I could get myself a good couple years of experience, hence the post. http://allstatecareer.com/ you got to stroke it to cum it [This message was edited by powerstroker on January 20, 2004 at 19:25.]Specializing in marine repairs: Inboard, Outboard, and I/O's.
