What to take training!
Question:
Im going to training in a week. I have a list of things to take clothes, bath supplies, sleeping bag and pillow ect. What suggestions do you have for items I might need. Thanks

Answer:
Your going to want to have
prescription meds you take
Anti-diarrhea med
Heartburn something
A book(even though training a breakdown can
always happen, was happy I had a book)
Money for food and incidentals(I was told to
at least $100)
a coffee cup that will fit into the holder
pain reliever
extra cigs if you smoke
extra pair of glasses if you wear them
sunglasses
pens, a small notebook
leather gloves(that will get very dirty)
I had a thermos for coffee
Thats all I can think of this minute. You will get more suggestions I am sure.
Good Luck with your training.

Answer:
then you know the essentials. Bearbell gave you a pretty good list though I want to clarify a few things.
Work Gloves. Dont spend a lot of money on these. They will get dirty and worn out fast. Also get some cheap jersey gloves to put in them for liners for the winter months.
Pens: Med point black ball point pens are best. Once again do not spend a lot of money here as trucks seem to have a way of eating ink pens. Just get yourself a dozen cheap reliable pens such as the BIC Stick pens or something similar.
6 inch ruler. Get yourself two of the cheap plastic ones. This is for use with your log book as the log book rulers most companies give out during orientation are junk.
Any and all prescription meds that you are taking. Try to get enough to last you through training plus 2 weeks unless you know you will be home at a certain time. Also a good idea to change your prescriptions to a national pharmacy like Wal Greens or Wal Mart so that if you do need refills while on the road it will be easier to obtain.
Extra contact lenses if you wear them. It is a good idea to have at least 3 extra sets of contacts with you if not more.
A folder to keep all the papers together you will recieve during orientation.
Laundry Bag. Some companies tell you this other do not.
Money: Take along $100 to orientation as suggested. If you do not have a debit card yet and can get one do so to pay for your purchases while out on the road and avoid ATM service charges especially if you are going to have your check direct deposited.
Blank Deposit Slip and a blank voided check if you plan to have your pay direct depostied assuming your company offers this option.
As far as the cigs go. If you may end up going into Canada do not have more than 1 carton with you as they will confiscate them at the border.
If you live near a truck stop go ahead and get yourself a motor carriers atlas. You can purchase a laminated one for around $30 at most Petro's, TA's, Pilots, etc. A non laminated one is about half that price, though if you can spring for it I reccomend the laminated version. If you dont live near one then dont worry about it and pick one up during training.
That should set you pretty good during training. Try to pack only that which you need and very little of the things you think will be nice to have. As suggested a book or three is nice to have along.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
