Thanks for any help Werner Will not let you have any big refrigerator that is wired in the truck, you aren't alowed to have any inverters. With Werner you may only have 12 volt items, only. If you get caught with an inverter with them you could get fired. Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen Answer: thanks seelord. I am doing real well in school have the top score in my class sofar after 15 weeks of school. Went on th road yesterday for the first time and did great was the only one who could shift of the three in the truck! Specializing in marine repairs: Inboard, Outboard, and I/O's. I have used the Igloo brand for many years and have had very little problems with it. The will keep things cooled to about 30 deg below the surrounding air temp and plug into any cig lighter outlet. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: That sounds like a good enough reason not to go with Werner. NEXT The 12volt coolers will keep food good for a few days. Their not intended for extended use. Plan on taking enough food for about a week that needs to stay cool and buy more at Walmart while on the road. If you load them down and when the weather gets warmer they will not work as well. Plan accordingly. Otherwise find a company that will let you have and wire in as big a converter as you can afford and get a fridge, microwave and whatever you need. 'Carpe Diem' does not mean 'fish of the day'. "If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles." Answer: do many companies let you have inverters wired in? Answer: When you call the companies recuiting department that your interested in, ask them if you are allowed to have an inverter in the truck and what is the max. wattage allowed by the company. Alot of them want there shop guys to put it in for a normal fee. Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Don't invest in anything like tools, cooler or the have to have"gourmet cooking"untensils until you ACTUALLY have and decided that you're suited to the job. Mike Answer: 12v cooler. I have one, and it does just fine. Depending on who you go with, and what type truck you get, there are 12v refrigerators that fit into the cabinets of most trucks. Be advised that they are expensive, and should you forget to turn it off, you are gonna have a great time 'splainin the need for a jumpstart or new batteries. Now with the apartment size fridge, by the time you get the inverter, fridge, installation, you'll spend waaaaaay more that the igloo. I put warm bottled water in my igloo, and it is cold within a day. Firts six months once you are out on your own, you ain't gonna be making a whole lotta money, so start saving now. Answer: Eighty percent (that's right, 80%) of all new drivers are out of the industry within the first year. Save your money until you're sure that you're going to be one of the remaining 20% who needs a refrigerator. Answer: First see what kind of truck you'll get. I second the Igloo or coleman 12v cooler. I freeze 2 or 3 16oz bottles of water and place them in the frt. of the cooler. Also place a 2" thick piece of styrofoam under the cooler on the floor. Have stayed out 2 wks. and water in the bottles never melted. I have had the cooler put ice flakes in my Dr. Pepper. As far as 80 percent not making it, don't worry everyone needs a cooler. Answer: they do make a 12 volt battery protector that simply plugs in in between the cooler and the outlet. This device will shut off the appliance it is pluged into whenever the voltage drops below a certain level. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I use the Igloo 40 qt also. Works great, keeps my food and sodas cold with no problem. If you have some appliance that you absolutely have to take on the road that is a/c only, you can get a small inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter that provides up to 100 watts. Once you finish school, you'll be going out with a trainer for up to eight weeks, so you won't have a lot of room anyway. Wiat till you finish training before you start buying any high ticket items.
