BORAT: Cultural learnings of America for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan - Page 2
Question:
I saw it and it is one of the most rediculous movies I've ever seen. It is so funny but so steryotypical and racist. I just can't belive that movie was made. It is actually better than the show. Most movies, I've seen, based off shows end up worse or just ok. This one was really entertaining though.
You might lose a couple million braincells from watching this movie but it is worth the 7.50 I paid to go. I've not said that in a long time...

Answer:
This moviefilm make me laugh like crazy hyena. Naked fight scene very entertain. Yes?

Answer:
I actually think the movie was smarter than a lot of people in its audience... what Borat (or Baron Cohen) does is confront people with their own prejudice and tease out the ugly parts of them (well, he also slaps people in the face with his testes, but whatever). When I watched it, most of his interactions with offensive people (like the Muslim-phobic, "lynch the gays" dude or the "war of terror" supporters at the rodeo) got big gasps and boos, but when he confronted the sexist/racist frat boys (the ones who blatantly "don't respect" any women, call all women "bitches" and "hos," want "women to be their slaves," and think "minorities are in control" of America) there were no gasps or jeers from the audience. (Well, me and the woman next to me... but that was it.)
People talk a lot about how Baron Cohen exposes people's anti-Semitism, but exposes their sexism just as often, and there haven't been any newspaper articles about that. We're at a peak of sexism in this culture, and people generally seem to be okay with it. As my boyfriend put it, "no one is surprised" when men talk that way about women. Which is creepy. But I love Borat, because in his way I think he's a feminist figure. He exposes the scary, idiotic side of misogyny just the same way he exposes the desire of red-blooded rodeo fans to "drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq."

Answer:
djuna: Some of the movie material was very poignant, and that certainly wasn't lost on me or my friends but naked men, rolling around shoving balls in each others face..is something I could see in my own living room on any given friday night. <jk>
Seriously though, if the "poignant" material had been more plentiful it would have been great. For example.. the dinner scene, "these two would.. but not so much her" or the "I thought I'd bring a friend..."... very clever.. however; bringing a bag of poop to the table just dumbed it down and appealed to anyone who is entertained by the sight of feces.. personally, this doesn't shock me..or entertain me. Like I said previously, I am more than willing to acknowledge that I love some "dumb" humour, but it has to be pulled off well..

Answer:
I like Sacha's Borat character, and I enjoyed the movie "very much!", but I don't think it was as amusing as the segments from Ali G that you can still watch on YouTube. Coming from a college town, it had a lot of buzz around campus, but I don't think it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen as a lot of kids claimed when they'd recommend it to me. I'd much rather watch an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm or Trigger Happy TV for the gut-wrenching laughs I was expecting, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Answer:
I went to see it last night because everybody I know have seen it and talked about it. Yes, it was a funny mockumentary of the social and cultural observation of the state of the U.S. today. The message of the movie was interesting-- looking for love etc. etc ( dont' want to be a spoiler here ) You'd have to be in the mood for it, I suppose. What's interesting to me is I woke up this morning still thinking about it wheareas I saw Aldomovar's "Volver" the week before and it's almost forgotten.

Answer:
I watched about an hour of it then finally walked out. I did not find it very funny. I mean I cracked a smile once or twice maybe laughed outloud one time? It was mostly just lame. I'm glad I only went to see it at the Beverly Fairfax "all seats $3" theater.
And, let me get his right, this from what I hear "deeply religious" Jewish man is supposed to be showing how OTHER people are racist with this film? Uh... ok, whatever!

Answer:
Were some parts funny? Absolutely. Was most of it not funny? Absolutely.

Answer:
I think that everyone got at least one laugh out of it.
It was racist: "The Jews have transformed! Throw them more money!"
It was racist: "Do you wish we still had slaves?"
It was racist: "What is upa Chocolate Face?"
and It was racist: "This is beautiful Vanya." *Make out* "She is my sister!"
It was sexist: "Women are allowed to vote?"
It was sexist: "Women are allowed to drive?"
It was also funny. I got a few good laughs out of this. The people that were extremely against this film (The ones that laugh at you for seeing it(Yeah, like that isn't self righteousness at its best.)) have something up their ass. I'm not saying people who saw it and didn't like it, I'm saying those who saw previews, and then saw a news byte of people who didn't like it, and then tell you you're dumb for going to see a comedy.

Answer:
I have seen some of his sketches, he's obviously clever and talented, but I think Borat (the movie) suffers from the same jinx as all those "take-a-tv-comedy-sketch-and-turn-it-into-a-full-length-feature" - it's simply overkill, too much of a good thing. I rented it actually, watched it for about 20 minutes and then had to turn it off - it was crude, in-your-face and eventually became too obvious and too loud. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if the individual scenes were released weekly on youtube, rather than watching an endless sequence of what eventually becomes samey variations on a theme.
I experience the same problem with continuous mix cd's - I can listen to the tracks individually, but mix & beatmach them non-stop and I get bored after about 10 minutes because everything starts to blend into the same repetetive tune. It all becomes a bit too familiar and boring quickly.
