Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

I love music: last.fm
Question:
If you guys haven't tried it out yet, Last.fm is awesome. You can stream music and skip over songs you don't like. I'm in love with the alt-country and indie folk streams. Check it out and PM me if you want to add me to your friends list on Last.fm. I have learned about SOOO much new and awesome music through this site. It's like a social networking site for music.

Answer:
Almost forgot...
I created a Basenotes group for us on Last.fm!

Please join it if you're on Last.fm and say hello.

Answer:
just joined the bn group. love last.fm, it's a great site

Answer:
I've just taken a look at that site and it looks similar to pandora.com. Did you know that one, Linnea? I use it quite often and it works great. Anyway, I'm willing to try last.fm, that group feature sounds interesting, but now I seem to be having connection problems, so I'll have to leave it for later.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip! Cool! Pandora looks great, I'll have to check it out. I like Last.fm because it scrobbles all the tracks I've listened to and makes a "recommended" radio station based on what I've liked. It also shows you "neighbors" who listen to similar music. Like I said, some of my other friends from another board use Last.fm, so that's how I got into it.

Answer:
I have tried both, and I prefer last.fm over pandora, because of the scrobbling, like linnea mentioned. I also joined the group btw, why is there no reccomended music?

Answer:
thanks Linnea!!
this works. It didn't tell me it needed new components like real audio and it didn't denigrate my choice of computer and browser as ITunes will if I'm not running the newest version on the latest box with at least 4 processors and 5 gb of ram.
It actually just launched and played "The Who" and "The Allman Brothers"
elapsed time from opening Linnea's post to music, under 10 minutes.
Nice

I think that after you start listening to more, the scrobbler takes over and can start making recommendations to you. Once our basenotes group grows a little and we start listening to more music, it'll work.
And fredericktoo... I agree, they do a great job with getting it to work quickly. I have an iPod, and I use iTunes... apparently when you dock your iPod there is a way to get Last.fm to add the tracks you've listened to on your iPod to your scrobbled tracks, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. I tried Pandora's recommended radio to find other groups like Son Volt, but I HAAAATED everything they put up. I like Last.fm better. My only complaint about Last.fm is that it irritates the hell out of me when some jacka** decides to tag Cannibal Corpse or Britney Spears as "alt-country" or "indie folk", because then it comes up on my radio stream...of course, then I just hit the "skip" button and life is good.
Anyway... I just got home from an awesome birthday party but I'm on call, so I'd better go rest up before someone needs an ambulance! (of course, I have had nothing to drink).

I haven't switched to "OS X". All of my graphic arts software is 9.1 compatible, got the job done, and now I'm retired, and to tired to figure out a new operating system.
