Expensive Office Chairs vs. the $99 Staples Special
Question:
Given how much time I spend on the Web (Basenotes included), I tend to need a good office chair.
I've had a dot-com surplus (read: I got it used at a huge discount off the obscene price) Herman Miller Aeron chair for about 4 1/2 years now. Even though the tilt limiter handle broke off a few months ago, it still works great and is very comfy. Even the slightly less expensive Mirra isn't as comfy as the Aeron.
But most of us Basenoters don't have the $700+ to spend on an Aeron, as we use most of our hard-earned cash on our beloved smellies. So, we have to make do with the $99 special from Staples, Office Depot, and the like. These can be a mixed bag: some can be really good, while others are miserable. I chose an $89 chair from Staples a while back for my mom that is nice... it's no Aeron, but it's still decent.

So, what kind of office chair do you have sitting next to your computer?

Answer:
I sit comfortably in my recliner. All laid back and comfy with my laptop on the side arm.

Answer:
I am actually sitting in a Mirra chair by Herman Miller, personally I find it more comfortable than the Aeron chair I have at work, but everybody is built differently.
As far as being able to afford it, well it helps a lot that I work for a company that sells these chairs :-)

Answer:
I sit on a 55cm stability ball when I'm in front of the computer at home. I so wish I could bring one of these to work, but I sit in a row of little cubicles & the thing would roll around & trip people up, so that's a no.

Answer:
I'm sitting in my fairly new $150 "Drafting" chair from Staples. It works out well since I'm 6'5" tall with size 16 shoes. The chair I wanted at Art Van was $350, plus tax. I' don't have enough discretionary income to purchase it at the moment (crosses finger the stock market will continue to rise).

Answer:
The Herman Miller Aeron chairs are the BEST. Gosh, I love those things.
However, since I don't have $900 to drop on a chair, I have an awesome yoga ball setup like CJ. The only downside is that my cats can't really sit on my lap very well. Lennybruce likes to use me ias a stepping stool to get up onto the desk and sit in front of the monitor.
The yoga ball rules. It is so comfortable to sit on.

Answer:
I am sitting in an only the Lord knows how old walnut office chair my grandfather 'salvaged' from a train depot back when he worked for the D&H Railroad after WWI. Thing is a solid as the day it was made.
