Internet Service: Dial-Up, Cable, DSL, or Fiber-Optic? - Page 2
Question:
Comcast digital cable

Answer:
Cox high-speed cable
6Mbps dl/500-700k ul - $42per mo
Switched to high-speed many years ago. First used BellSouth DSL up to 4Mbps - good service ($50); then went to Comcast at 4-5Mbps for a slightly lower price; then moved to the Midwest and now using Cox who recently upgraded their service from 5 to 6Mbps for free. Plus I used to work at a university that had crazy fast internet. There's no going back to dial-up after you've experienced high-speed inet.

Answer:
As great as high-speed internet is, i'll always have fond (and not-so-fond) memories of dial-up. Just trying to log on was frustrating at times, but when you finally did, it felt like you accomplished something.
Who can ever forget the fax machine sounds and "Welcome...You Got Mail!"

Answer:
I have cable internet at home (but no cable tv). I also have a T-Mobile Sidekick 3, and the internet on that thing is pretty fast, I think. Faster than dial-up, that's for sure. It also depends on the time of day. I've found that it's SUPER fast in the late night/early morning hours...but of course I never really have to use it then, lol.

I can't forget... and it's been years and years.

Answer:
As one of the few remaining Luddite stalwarts on AOL dial-up, I can say, and at a blazing 44,000bps, I turn off my speakers, sign onto AOL, go read a chapter or two of my Book-du-Jour and return in a few to behold a screen full of adventure and information on Basenotes!

Answer:
I got a good deal down here from my phone provider - 100Mbps on downloads with a 60Gigabyte download limit (20Gbyte in peak, 40Gbyte in off peak), for A$43 (US$33) per month.
However, uploads are choked to 256Kbps.

Renato Funny that you have download limits down under... we don't have download limits in the USA, not even for dial-up. I don't think that European countries have download limits, either... limits and overages for broadband access must be an Austrailan thing.
