Name your local grocery stores! - Page 2
Question:
In south Florida it's Publix, Winn Dixie, Albertsons, WalMart (SuperCenters only). WalMart is definitely the least expensive for meat and packaged products but 'it is like shopping in Grand Central Station. And I find doesnt have the overall good selection of fresh veggies as do the others.

Answer:
Stop and Shop and Shaw's are my local "big" supermarkets. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are the "alternative". I do most of my shopping in a smaller local chain called Roche Brothers.

Answer:
Around me are Kroger, Publix, Wal-Mart Superstore, and for organic/unusual we have Wild Oats.
I love Wild Oats! They also have a big selection of three lines of aromatherapy oils, the carrier oils, Demeter, Waleda, and on and on. I was just there last night, sniffing my fool head off.

Answer:
Here in Fort Wayne, we have Kroger, Scott's Food & Pharmacy (a local chain owned by the huge national company Supervalu), Meijer (a huge Midwestern groceries and everything store), and Wal-Mart Supercenter (all 4 Wal-Mart stores in the city are supercenters).
Of those, I tend to like Kroger and Wal-Mart the best when it comes to prices and variety.
And here's some food for thought (pun intended): Target wanted to open a SuperTarget here in Fort Wayne, but when the people at Target HQ in Minneapolis came down to visit, they found that the grocery competition was already too intense. So they just bulldozed the two old Target stores and built two new ones with a convienence-based (but not as good as a SuperTarget) food selection.

Answer:
Loblaws, Loeb, Sobey's, Farmboy, Independent Grocer.
a.

Answer:
Kroger, Schnucks...and my favorites Wild Oats Market, and Fresh Market

Answer:
Ooh I have both Whole Foods and Wild Oats pretty close to my apartment. If I had more money, I'd buy ALL my groceries from these two places. I go to either one at least once a week, though. I go to Wild Oats when I'm craving sushi because they pretty good (and inexpensive!) spicy tuna rolls. I go to Whole Foods whenever I need to stock my liquor cabinet, because WF is across the parking lot from a HUGE discount liquor store .

Answer:
I think the only chain near where I live is Provigo. Other than that it's all small, family run stores. You get your bread one place, your vegies another, fish at the fish market, meat at the butcher... You get the picture. Or you just get it all at Provigo for higher prices. Or at Quatre Freres, that's pretty close by, as well.

Answer:
Yes! Wild Oats has good rolls...I get the Crunchy Shrimp roll at least twice a week. You are right though..there is a huge $price$ to eat organic/healthy.

Answer:
Seabra Market (carries a very large selection of Portuguese items)
Shaw's
Stop-n-Shop
Dave's Market
