cold weather: does it affect you?
Question:
Here in NYC and all on the East Coast of the USA we are having FRIGID cold weather. Single digit temps + wind chill = below freezing, and it's been about 4 days in a row with another 4-5 days in sight. Was wondering if anyone feels any effects of the cold weather? For me, I am feeling intense fatigue, obviously dry skin and hair, but I think the fatigue and sense of "trudging through cement" that everyday brings in this weather is the most difficult. Also, since I live in NYC, I walk in the outdoors a lot going from home to subway, subway to work, etc. Anyone else have a cold weather rant? -------------------------------------- currently 14 degrees in NYC with 15mph winds Answer: It's too cold to drag the little one around on errands, even to go pick up the damn mail. We are trapped indoors, basically. There are only so many tea parties & games of Candyland I can handle before I go completely stir crazy. On the bright side this year we set the clocks forward about 3 weeks sooner than usual That makes me extremely happy, I'm not a winter (or fall) person at all. Answer: Here in Kansas the weather can change drastically from one day to the next. Like yesterday it was 55 degrees (the warmest we've seen in a LONG time!) and today it's back down to around 25. It does this so much & that's what messes w/ my system hardcore. Add to that, where I work the heating & cooling system is so funky. One day it'll be freezing in my area of the building and the next day it'll be roasting! So yeah, that doesn't help matters. And the temperature fluctuates year-round, too! My birthday is in late April, and when I was a kid I usually had pool parties (at an indoor pool, of course). I remember one year for my birthday, we all went SLEDDING!!!!!!!!!!! Yep. Snow. In late April. THAT was trippy!!! Winter weather watches and tornado watches have also been known to occur within a few days of each other. I've heard about the weather you're having on the news, mochi. That sounds downright MISERABLE!!! I hate having to go out when the temp is anything below 20 degrees!!! I'm sure when it gets back up to 20 degrees it'll feel tropical!!! Answer: Being a Finn I'm used to cold, for example now we have -22 C here and that's a regular winter temperature. I actually prefer below zero temperature (as long as there's pure white snow and bright sunshine) to sloshy grey porridge +1-4 C weather. The worst I've been through was -40 C, that was horrible! Answer: I'm with CJ--anything below 20 makes me very unhappy. I already have Raynoud's in my hands and feet and the cold weather SUCKS for me. My toes seems cold, and then painful--I take off my shoes and socks and they are blanched stone dead white. It really wierd, and I can see the extremely clear line of "yes, the blood goes to here. The only solution is external warmth and I must not stick them in front of a heater as with no blood flow they can't even really absorb heat and will blister. It's totally bizarre. I have to run elbow tested warm water into a foot bath. I gather it's like being extremely susceptable to frostbite. Stupid toes. Answer: Please don't hate me because I live in Sunny Southern California. My daughter was here a while and moved back to Florida in time for the storm because she doesn't like it here. I usually want to move, it's getting dangerous here, but when I hear stories like these, I feel fortunate. Answer: What's cold weather?? (I'm facing a 37ºC temperature) Answer: Hey, I live right here in Manhattan! Not very good weather at allll, but I just try to stay indoors. At least it LOOKS nice! Plus, the cold weather beckons you to cuddle and sip hot chocolate. Answer: Here in 'Sunny Lancashire' it has been cold. At last. The sterotype of the English as obsessed with chit-chat about the weather is true. Which is fantastic because we hardly ever get any - i.e. it has been -2C for a couple of days and people are pursing their lips and wondering what chaos this is going to bring. Personally I love it - I get to wear nice scarves and a hat (at a jaunty angle). I get a nice brisk thirty minute walk into work. Things feel clean - and the sky is that bright austere fresh shade of blue. (Contrast the drizzle and damp winds whipped in off the Irish Sea that masqueraded as October/November/December) More importantly - there are insects flying around that ought not to be appearing until April. Alongside my winter delights in the garden (snowdrops, crocus) I've got roses blooming (I could have pruned them harder, but even so, this is just wrong). Answer: Not so cold in Vancouver BC, just rain, rain, rain... I'm originally from NJ. I'm glad I'm missing the frigidity... and the cold weather Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
