men's shoes
Question:
i'm looking for a business casual men's shoe that won't break the bank. Something like alden but obviously not that finely made

would something like that be appropriate as business wear?

Answer:
If you're going to wear a suit, then I personally wouldn't wear a loafer. A good laceup oxford would be your best bet. Many people swear by Allen Edmonds shoes, which are comparable to Alden.

Answer:
Business casual? City or provinces? Not that it matters, really.
These are comfortable, five bills with shoe trees.
PS: Shoes are the wrong thing to skimp on. Better to have three good pairs than half a dozen ... less good.

Answer:
Big thumbs down for loafers. They're so Miami Vice circa 1983.
As Teflondog says, a lace up brogue is smarter.

As Teflondog says, a lace up brogue is smarter. The initial question was re: Business Casual. This implies no suit. Or are you still saying that loafers/slip-ons, etc. are a part of footwear that is so 1980's? If so, then call me Crockett!

Answer:
Ah well you have to remember I was in my teens in the 80s. In the UK at least, the slip on shoe was the preserve of the "casual" - the sort of lad who had a wedge hair cut, Farrah slacks, pastel Pringle sweaters, gold belcher chains and sovereign rings and who liked Northern Soul-type music. The slip on shoes and loafers were always paired with white socks. They were usually called things like Kevin or Trevor and drove Ford Capris and XR3is. They were uniformly uncultured and mostly not too bright either.
As an alternative/goth girl, these sort of boys represented all that I despised.
These days they have morphed into chavs. The style is slightly different but the ethos is the same. It's all Burberry baseball caps, cigarettes and teenage pregnancies.

Answer:
Kennieth Cole are urban, chic & won't break the bank.
& for the special days ,I am saving my new Gucci loafers with bamboo & LV Monte Carlo loafers with the big buckle..so comfortable
& check..Prada 'Linea Rossa' with the red strip are more comfortable & cheaper.

Answer:
I recall thinking as a youth that Bass Weejuns Penny Loafers represented the ne plus ultra of footwear.

In the U.S. "Business-casual" is generally trousers and shirt with collar (this could be a wide range from polo to dressy). "Dress-down" could be anything goes, sneakers and jeans, or whatever.
Of course, sneakers for me are something one wears to the gym. An everyday 'sneaker' might be something like this:

Answer:
Yes, those are quite funky.
These are the kind of shoes I abhor. Yuck.
