Shaving armpits, better?
Question:
I hate that deodorant doesn't work after a while b/c my hairy armpits. should i shave them, or will it cause itching/irritation?
Should I try using Mitchum? i tried the gel form of it, didn't like. anyone tried the solid one?
thanks.
also, is it effective to spray cologne under armpits?

Answer:
I think this would be better suited to the "cosmetics and beauty" side of the forum.
Are you SURE you aren't a troll? I mean, are you being serious, G Man, or are you pulling our leg? We've answered your questions honestly and patiently, but with this... it is a personal decision you have to make dependent on your own ideas, your own feelings, and your own skin type. Will it burn? Depends on your skin and how you shave them. The best person to ask would be your mom, sister, girlfriend, etc. or any woman/man who shaves his/her pits.
I mean, basenotes is a great place, but it isn't your one-stop end-all source of cosmic knowledge. At some point, you are just going to have to try some things yourself and see how it goes. Occasional questions are fine, but at some point members start to feel like you're just taking advantage if you do nothing but post questions, the answers for which you could easily find yourself (or, in this case, SHOULD find for yourself).
EDIT: THANK YOU, whichever mod moved this out of the regular forum.

Answer:
what? ok fine, "Mom", I'll leave. For God's sake, suck it up and just ignore the questions if you don't want to answer. You can type so much about bashing me, but I guess that's what you do best. Stop treating me like I'm a child. Thank that dude for losing a committed base noter. bye.

Ok, take it easy. Rach makes a good point, just change your perspective a bit and give it a thought or two.
Anyway, to answer your question re: armpits.
When i was a teenager, my first "important" girlfriend kindly suggested if it might not be a good idea to shave them. I was puzzled but received a non-committal answer. Something like, "try it and if you don't like it, don't do it again". So, allright, i'm open-minded.
You know what? Deodorant goes on your skin. Your hair doesn't sweat. Makes perfect sense, right? i've never looked back. Shaving armpits is part of a weekly routine.
Think about trimming the "fun zone", too.

also, is it effective to spray cologne under armpits? Why do you think a lot of women shave their armpits, even in winter? Because the deodorant will have its full effect!
I would use a trimmer instead of regular shaving and a little bit of talcum powder applied before using the trimmer makes removing unwanted hair easier.
Be careful with deodorant applied directly after trimming/shaving. Your skin could be a bit sensitive. An unscented deo usually is best for that first time IMO.
And using cologne under armpits? Not as a substitute for deodorant. For me there is too much alcohol in cologne anyway to feel very comfortable spraying that in my armpits

Answer:
How about getting them waxed?
Lasts longer up to 6 weeks.
You can also get no alcohol deos which you can use even after shaving, they are unfragranced.

If you want to shave your armpits, I see you´ve gotten some good advice here already, BUT; I felt "forced" to answer to this post, because I find it unsexy when men have hairless armpits, in fact a real turn-off Maybe you could just trim them a bit?
Clean sweat doesn´t smell until it meets the bacteria on your skin, so my advice is to just clean your armpits often with a wet towel and use an effective unscented antiperspirant.
If you are going to have sex, I would suggest clean armpits but NO antiperspirant!
Well, good luck to you, whatever you decide to do G Man!

Answer:
I'm with musse, shaved pits are weird on a guy, and I'd much rather deal with a little musk than feminized pits. BUT, by all means, you can trim yourself a bit.
As coTHuk notes your hair doesn't sweat, but that's not the point at all. Sweat doesn't smell until it reacts with your natural bacteria, and hair definately provides an immensely extra surface area for the growth and interactions of bacteria, as well as making it more difficult for the antipersirant to get to the skin--which it MUST do to work, as it is a physical blocker of pores. It is also very important to apply when dry. Persons with severe 'hyperhydrosis' who go to a dermatologist are advised to blowdry their pits out of the shower before applying deodorant.
You also can benefit from getting a scrubbing glove and scrubbing/exfoliating your pits. I cannot overstate this, as the upper dead layers of skin are also fertile and moist bacterial breeding grounds.
I agree this question is not best on the fragrance board. It is completely appropiate here on male grooming, as we've had this question before. It seems quite relevant to a fragrance oriented young man. And where the f. else would he go to get the above expert advice????
Ignorance and a certain degree of immaturity are the privileges of the young, and asking every question honestly is the only way to grow up!

Answer:
Hmmm, i'm a little surprised by several women expressing disdain over shaved armpits on men. To be honest, i haven't given it much thought - have never had a negative comment 'bout it - it's made me feel like i've tried to maximize good personal hygiene for twenty years, too.
Maybe the hair on my chest distracts from the danger area ... the face. (haha) No, i mean the smooth armpits.
Interesting. But anyway ...

Answer:
As a female who shaves her underarms, I need to do this at least every two days. However, unless you are a model, stripper, or have some sort of profession where body hair is best removed, I wouldn't remove your hair there as women find that a bit, well, strange! (Unless you're gay of course and don't care!). I'd recommend using scissors to trim any straggly hair instead.
I also use the stick Mitchum - it works well, doesn't sting and doesn't have an odour so can be worn without interfereing with your cologne.
If you must remove the hair, get it waxed professionally - waxing your own pits is very difficult!
