Ball python in my basement
Question:
It sounds like the start of a dirty joke, doesn't it? It's just the truth. I got my son a cute little python tonight at PetsMart. Tomorrow we will feed it a pinkie.
Who can guess (or knows) what this is and how we will do it?

Answer:
ummm..i guess a pinkie is a mouse? and you just put it in? and the python swallows it?

is my guess. i have a cat. it eats catfood.

Answer:
I've never seen a "cute" snake, lol. But, feel free to post a pic of it in the "show us your pets" thread!!!

Answer:
Yes, I have to learn how to post photos! A pinkie is indeed a mouse. Its a frozen baby mouse and I nearly died when I heard this. I just assumed it would eat worms and crickets, since it's little head is not even an inch long.
We will defrost the pinkie, we will get a pair of tweezers and swirl it around in a cup of warm water. The petman was very insistant we use tweezers, he emphasized this a great deal. Anyway, using tweezers, we will wave this pinkie in front of the snake and he will think it is alive, and strike. He is fed a pinkie every Wednesday and Sunday. Sunday is...tomorrow...
Don't use your fingers. says the petman, eyes wide, "because they strike really fast."
Jon's dad had a python in highschool that he used to wrap around his neck under his beard and take for walks in the park. I didn't find this out until after we were already married. Part of me would like to call him and say "Get your ass over here and help Jon feed this frickin' snake a baby mouse, you sorry son of a $&#@*! But...then I'd have to speak to him, and see him. Eeeegggghhh. It's really a toss up.

That sounds like a lot of fun!

Answer:
A friend of mine had an iguana, a very large one, and they got baby mice as well. The baby mice are so tiny. I get very uncomfortable with this "great circle of life" stuff. I love animals, and I would have a very hard time feeding a mouse, rat, or bunny to another animal.

Answer:
How fast do you think he will grow?
"Pythons range in size from 1 to 6 metres (3 to 20 feet) in length. Some pythons are among the longest species of snakes in the world" (from Wikipedia).
Oh, I suppose you could always make a lovely handbag out of him when he grows out of control
::ducks for cover::
But really....those poor little pinkies.... I really, really love mice. And rats. And I am not even remotely Goth.

Answer:
Ball pythons will grow to a length of about 4-5 feet. They're really not big compared to the other pythons, but they are FAT. I love snakes, and I almost got a Ball Python myself, but decided it would be too expensive (Says the guy spending WAY too much money on cologne.)
Pinkies are dead. Your contribution to the market will not kill any more pinkies. Believe me, you're not going to have an effect on the pet food market, hence the presence of crappy foods like Alpo, Pedigree, and Iams. Other people will buy whether or not you will.

It sounds fascinating to have a snake as a pet, but I don't think I could ever handle the stress. Would be WAY too afraid it'd escape and attack me at night
