Ball python in my basement - Page 3
Question:
Name suggestion? What about 'Manolo'?
I mean, as a warning against bad-snake-behaviour
And Shycat, I really adore snakes!! Really, really!
I would love to have a real snake but hubby is simply terrified. And somehow I don't think bunny will be very amused either.
But I am glad you told about the feeding of the pinkies. Yes, of course, it is hypocritical to expect a snake only eating food we have no trouble with.
It is the same as with my adoration for hawks and their habit of eating rabbits
Boy, do I envy you!
Please keep us informed. I find this fascinating.

Answer:
That is so true about the hypocrisy. We don't seem to have a problem eating what we need. Snakes have a place in this world just like any other animal and they help keep down the rodent infestations. I never could talk my snakes into a Big Mac and fries or I'd still have them. I live where there are Mohave Greens. If they bite you, you have half an hour to get the anti-venom or you're dead. Luckily when I ran into some coiled Mohave Greens, I had gotten over my fear of snakes and learned what to do instead of panic or I'd have gotten it for sure.

Don't leave me hanging---what did you do?

Answer:
I stood perfectly still, didn't move at all until the coiled one about two feet from me gave up and went on his way. Before, I would have been in such a screaming frenzy, it would have had to bite this crazy lady. Please, I am not suggesting this for everyone, I am no expert, but I also watched the animal chanel a lot to learn what I could.

Answer:
are Green Mohaves considered aggressive? I'm glad that a lot of dangerous animals are also shy retiring types who would rather get out of the way than look for a fight.

Answer:
Ball pythons get their name because when they are frightened, they coil up into a little ball and hide their heads.
Now tell me that's not cute!

Answer:
sorry but "cute" is NOT a word I would ever use to describe a snake.
You see, I would be the crazy, screaming lady that the green mohave thing-ee would be biting in a frenzy of his own ...

Answer:
This is too much!
I was minding my own business, playing a game of Bubble Trouble. The dog started barking. Not a woo woo woo kind of somebody at the door bark, but single ARF's every 5 - 10 seconds. After BT, I investigated. The dog sat with his nose to Jon's backpack, along with two very attentive cats.
"JON!" I called, "Did your mouse get out again?" "Come and see what's under your backpack!"
Equipped with the now requisite tupperware bowl, he exclaims, "Oh GOOD! Another snake to add to my collection!"
It's an Eastern Ribbon Snake, and it's in a two gallon aquarium (#@%$ all these old aquariums!) with a hill of gravel and a pond. Sigh, I caved to one week, to see if it will eat feeder guppies.
I seem to have lost control of my household.

Answer:
Shycat, that's a little funny from my side. I can just imagine all those pets. I used to breed fish and had lots of salt water and brackish water and several freshwater tanks. I remember, two kids and a house load of pets. Look at it this way, at least it's not lonely.
