I had a great time tonight.
Question:
I met these guys at Dillard's, they said they were in a band. I got to talking to the drummer, and it seems we have similar tastes. He told me they had a gig tonight, and invited me to come. I decided to go, and boy am I glad I did. They're a country band, with a Jamaican for a rythmn/harmonica player. Mark (The drummer) was really good, and I had a great time talking to him about drum sets and various styles. They played a hard gig tonight though. The lead singer (Lance) won't hire a sound guy, and feedback was a major problem all night long. Lance strained his voice the night before at a gig, and couldn't hit high notes all night long. After a short break, they started playing some ACDC, and the house started rocking hard. The bar was already packed, and some random people invited me to sit with them, got to talking and I found out one of them is an IT guy, right up my alley, although my focus is a little more technically involved. They offered me beer I don't know how many times, and after telling him no for the last time, he told me to order anything I wanted on his tab, (He recommended a martini once he found out Vodka was my drink.) but I once again declined, because I didn't wanted to get kicked out of the bar. After playing for another hour, and getting about 50 people on the dance floor, Mark told me to play a song, "I've Got Friends In Low Places". Since I haven't listened to country in a while, I said no, but he kept at it, so I sat down. Lance was in the crowd singing and playing his guitar, and Mark wen into the crowd too. Near the end, Lance yelled out "It's our drummer! Who's playing the drumset?!?!" It was a lot of fun, and I ended up talking to Mark after the gig too. Turns out they're from OP, so I'll probably get to see them again sometime. Just wanted to share that with you. - Rich Answer: That does sound like a dream come true! I wish I'd been there to give you a round of applause (or possibly to heckle you....depending on my mood, you know! ) Answer: Either way, I would've been glad to see you, I didn't know anybody but the band in the entire bar. - Rich Answer: Jeez, thanks for sharing, that must have been fun! I have an old VHS with Garth Brooks singing "I´ve Got Friends In Low Places", it really rocks. Wish I had been there. Answer: Sounds like fun ... was this a bar in Manhattan? Answer: Yep, RC McGraw's - Rich Answer: Every time I see the title of this thread I'm thinkin' "That's what my date said." Is it just me? Regardless, love the thread title Rich, and I'm glad you were able to meet some fellow musicians with taste similar to yours. It's been a long time since I ran into anybody around ATL with whom I could kick out the jams. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
