lame ass restaurant i ate at tonight
Question:
i just wanted to make a post about the lame time i had tonight at this restaurant. ok so i am home visiting shortly before going back across an ocean and a continent so my sister wanted to go out for dinner tonight with me and the boy, well she wanted to go out for FONDUE and i was all, ok fondue sounds good, i mean i like fondue right? so admittedly i have never eaten at a fondue restaurant before but i was imagining some young-ish kind of laid back nouveau hippie kind of atmosphere maybe i mean it's fondue right? i didn't know it then but now i know that it's apparently a chain fondue restaurant
so we get there and the restaurant is pretty much empty but the hostess informs us that we have to sit in this special area since all the normal tables are full (even though they were empty) and oh by the way we ARE reservation only. my first reaction was wtf? it's fondue. . . anyways actually my sister got kind of snappy herself at this attitude from the hostess which i'm not sure was really justified but there you go. long story short it was unbelievably overpriced and so snotty. it was just weird. i live in a college town and there are some pretty nice restaurants here and i eat at a lot of them relatively frequently and i have never encountered such an attitude nor such ridiculously high prices for such a little amount of food. for 3 of us it was about 60 dollars (ok the boy and i had cocktails and my sister got a 6 or 7 dollar said and this salad was not worth that,) etc. this isn't really much of a thread with a point i just wanted to talk about the lame ass time i had tonight. was still hungry after dinner and went home and made spaghetti. really couldn't believe the snotty attitude of a fondue place. i am sure that if i were to walk into the best restaurant in town they would seat me with nary a word as long as there were available tables. the "normal" tables at this restaurant were completely empty the whole time and everyone in the restaurant was sitting at the "no reservations/outcasts" section, i can't believe this is a chain with such bizarre business practices. really strange. that's all.

Answer:
I know exactly where you are talking about. LOL I have wanted to go there for some reason, but now I am very glad I did not. Thanks.

Answer:
yeah well it's odd 'cause my sister had heard from a few people that it's "really good, but expensive" as in, worth the money but imo it wasn't worth it. i know fondue is naturally gonna be kind of expensive just 'cause gruyere and wine aren't the cheapest ingredients, but actually traditional fondue was only one of the kinds offered, others being made from less expensive cheddar or others, but all for the same price. but honestly the fondue itself wasn't too expensive, just 8 dollars a person, and i know these days in some parts of the world 8 dollars is what you pay for a sandwich. but i know that an 8 dollar sandwich would be more like a whole meal and certainly not leave you feeling hungry, but this was just . . . not filling at all. it was a tiny pot of cheese and just a small (i mean tiny) bowl of bread, a few ( i literally mean a few) pieces of cauliflower, carrot, and celery, and just a few apple slices. like really pitiful. i think you have to pay more to add decent things to dip in, like 15 dollars (a person? not sure) for meats or more interesting vegetables, but again with such a small amount of cheese how does that work? the big thing they try to sell is the "big night out" which is a 4 course meal for 40 - 50 dollars a person. which i guess isn't that expensive for a 4-course meal but really, why not just do what they claim to do and make good fondue? and i thought the whole point of reservations was if a restaurant has too many walk-in customers to seat, not to create some artificial air of exclusivity. well it was good for one reason 'cause the boy (he hates being called that but i don't know what else to call him, maybe J) had never had fondue before and found it quite tasty, but my sister makes a damn good fondue and it would have been more filling and more laid back and i would guess less expensive (although i do admit gruyere is not cheap)
anyways that's my conclusion. big thumbs down.
