Favorite "bad" movie?
Question:
Are there any "bad" movies that you just happen to love? Stuff that was panned by the critics, but that you really enjoy? Two come to mind: Dune by David Lynch -- I saw this one with my Dad at the theatres and loved it from the get-go. The scenes in the desert at night, with the summery winds, and worms and spice and..."The Sleeper has awakened!" I just loved it. Nowhere by Greg Araki -- One of my friends used to work at an artsy movie house and he would let me watch movies for free. One day I came through and there was nothing that I recognized so I sat down and watched this one. Straight up the worst movie I had ever seen. Everybody in it was bad...and the lead part was the total worst. Like a wannabe Keanu Reeves, but totally more lame. But later that night I just started laughing thinking about it. "That was pretty funny." I saw it again and laughed harder than ever. It has an all-star cast and is pretty homoerotic, but there is something about it that I just love. Great soundtrack too! Answer: Almost too many, I will leave The Planet of the Apes to others, but my favorite bad movies are John Wayne's Rio Bravo and Rio Lobo. Riveting. Answer: Ya know, the first Dune movie was what I first thought of... I do enjoy the early Peter Jackson stuff: Bad Taste Meet the Feebles Dead Alive and I couldn't bear myself if I didn't add: Rocky Horror Picture Show (all those wasted nights in high school) Answer: Dark Star - John Carpenter Answer: La Moustache, which I have commented on before, a French film about a man who shaves his mustache of twenty years, and slowly, incrementally and exponentially loses his mind when NO ONE , not even his wife notices. This led to many jokes from my honey that went something like this: "Bush? WHAT bush?" Answer: Well, you asked for it: Revenge of the Nerds. I actually find it inspirational. Answer: Plan Nine From Outer Space. So bad it HAS to be watched, because you have to believe it has to get better. And I am for multiple plot twists and alternate endings for all films, no indication given as to which or what you will see in any given viewing. How interesting THAT would make seeing just about any movie. Answer: I don't think Dune was "Bad" at all... ...Back when Kyle McLachlan wasn't a girly-man, ala Desperate Housewives! I still liked him best in "The Trigger Effect", (even if Dermot Mulroney WAS the stud)... ...An all-too-real exploration of what might happen to our tenuous grips on "civilization" when pressed.... Answer: I don't think Dune was "bad" either; I really like it. The critics, on the other hand, panned it as one of the worst movies of all time. Tommy Boy is pretty good too. (Nearly saved my life!!) I used to watch those rip-off Bruce Li/Le/Liu movies when I was in junior high. Totally hilarious. They were always with some cat that LOOKED like Bruce Lee, even though he wasn't. Talk about copywrite infringement. Revenge of the Nerds is classic! I love the concert at the end...kinda like the concert in School of Rock, which I too find inspiring. Answer: Definitely Ford Fairlane which starred Andrew Dice Clay. Possibly the worst movie ever, but made me piss in my pants at the time. I can watch it over and over.
