Of course, I have not gone down the marriage and kids route so I've been free to pursue my hobbies and interests and spend all my money on myself. Can't grow old, won't grow old! As for suicide, I have too much to look forward to to even consider it. My aunt tried to top herself in a variety of ways before dying a slow death from liver failure due to all the overdoses. Suffice to say, if I wanted or needed to die, I would make sure I did the job properly right away, so there was no chance of a lingering and undignified death. The world is endlessly interesting right down to the furious activity in a single drop of water. Answer: Just a thought or two. To die from a shotgun to the head is extremely painful. No way you will drop over and that's it. The process of dying will take several minutes. The heart is still beating and you get to feel the full damage in a way you probably didn't know it's even possible. To die in a fire is for sure a lot of horror as well. And did you know, it only takes a glass of water to die from drowning. Answer: Originally Posted by nsamadi Probably young...Life gets boring after 30 anyways. Hm. I'd say by your late twenties you finally start to acquire some financial power. In your thirties you can begin to use it to improve the quality of your life and that of your loved ones in a big way. I won't even go the route of self-knowledge, etc. or any of a dozen other relevant issues. In most ways, life begins at 30. -------------------------------------- Originally Posted by Thrax Hmmm...interesting topic. I guess I'd have to go for the ol' gun shot to the head. Are you high!!! With all of the pressures that todays teens are going through the last thing we need to be teaching them is that suicide is ok if its their choice. And here are some ways you can do it. Give me a freakin break. This has got to be one of the most asinine paragraphs i have ever read! Answer: Originally Posted by ajmc Are you high!!! I can't imagine anyone thinking that a course on suicide in schools would be a good idea. Now a course on how to get away with murder, THAT could be helpful Answer: Originally Posted by kbe IMO boredom is self-induced. Well..what I meant was things kinda tone down after 30....I guess it's a different kinda fun....thought I'm not really interested in that stuff, but I might change and mature. I wasn't really saying exactly at 30...but you know, I dont' wanna live to 90 years old...where's the fun in that...but I guess you can find something worth living for...maybe seeing your grand kids grow up. I would like to know..maybe I'd like to change my mind and live longer. For them, being able to know when your time has come and to be able to put an end to your life was considered a sign of maturity. But when the Christians started to spread all over, suicide went to be seen from a noble gesture to a shameful and unforgivable action, it was an offense to God. Maybe there should be introduced in high schools some Modern ways to commit suicide or The history of suicide courses, just in case someone wants to do it so he won't think that its such a big deal or a very rare and original act.... Hmm..I would think it virtually impossible to hold one's breath until death as first one would become unconscious and breathing would normally automatically return in more than sufficient time to avoid death, and probably even avoid any hypoxic brain damage. Possibly a heart attack, a fatal wound from falling on some object when passed out maybe, but I think not from holding breath. Even descriptions to the contrary by 'witnesses' should be held in skepticism as possibly just attempts to elevate the subject's abilities in the reader's mind. But I do agree that a course in the value of life itself as opposed to the act of suicide might be a good addition to the teen curriculum. So many of today's children grow up playing intense visual/audio interactive electronic games where death is merely a temporary state and the player's avatar or enemy recovers to play yet again. Some impressionable young minds might misinterpret and confuse those events as being plausible in the real world and so that might make life-ending decisions less 'final', at least if partially based on such false input at some later date. Answer: They have proven that it is physically impossible to hold your breath do death. When you pass out, your body is telling you that the conscious part of your brain is doing something wrong, and that unconscious, you have a better chance of survival. When you become unconscious, your natural body functions return to normal. Example: Do you die when you fall asleep? No, but you are unconscious. There's a small part of your brain that makes sure that everything keeps on ticking. This small part of the brain is called the brain stem, and all animals with a brain have it. It's what our brains were before we were fully conscious of what we were. The brain stem is the same reason that you won't feel pain after you die from a shotgun blast to the head. When you do extreme damage like a bullet to the head, the brain stem keeps your body functions going (Like your heart beating), but the conscious part of your brain is done, so you don't feel any pain. Evidence of that is that you collapse, because the conscious part of your brain is no longer telling your body what to do, and cannot feel pain. Burning to death is not the worst thing that can happen to you. Due to the extreme nature of the act, you either pass out from the pain or the fumes first. People that are burned in house fires are subjected to the ultimate irony. By staying low to the floor, they stay conscious, but that also means they can feel themselves burning. If they would stand up, they would pass out and not have to feel the pain, but they would also be of no help to the firefighters. Stand up and die nearly painlessly, or stay low and burn nearly to death, only to live and suffer through months of recovery, and be completely traumatized the rest of your life? Unfortunately, most people don't know about the first option, because they've had "Stay low dammit!" ingrained into their brain all of their lives. To a Christian, suicide may or may not be an unforgivable act. To the Japanese, it is about honor, no more, no less. Do you live and disgrace your family, only to be beaten and outcast, or do you commit suicide and save face? I'd prefer not to commit suicide, to much to live for. - Rich Answer: Originally Posted by ajmc Are you high!!! Give me a freakin break. This has got to be one of the most asinine paragraphs i have ever read! Excuse my maybe naive question but in your opinion whats wrong with suicide if it can be done in a painless way? I feel you took it a little personal... BTW, I am very lucid, I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke and I certainly don't take any drugs. R$, I think you're right about dying by keeping your breath. I just read it somewhere. Nonetheless, if it would be possible, it would be a very elegant way to do it... But I'm dying of curiosity to see some arguments against suicide from the lovers of life and all the human kind.
